About this property

Nestled against the charming backdrop of Newby Bridge is this historic terraced cottage. It sits on the route of the historic Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway, whose steam trains trundle along the garden’s edge, within the outstanding Lake District National Park. 7 Railway Cottages offers a perfect base for a family of four, welcoming children both young and older, or for couples wanting to get away from it all. A generous boot room gives you space as you enter the property to kick off your muddy boots after a day on the fells, hang your coats and dump your bags. The kitchen diner is a great size, for hanging out in, over breakfast or playing boardgames or relaxing with the papers. There’s a dining table for 4 which can be extended further for special family meals. You’ll find everything you need in the modern fully equipped kitchen including a Nespresso machine when you need your coffee fix. There’s a separate well kitted out utility room which means laundry and dirty dishes don’t have to clutter your kitchen/ diner space. The living room is comfort personified, combining the best of a traditional holiday home with 21st century comforts - a woodburning stove and a smart TV! There’s everything you need for a Netflix and Chill. There’s even a sofa bed if you have extra guests to stay. The staircase leads you to a stunning master bedroom on the right, with a good size bathroom and a cosy bunk bedroom on the left. The Farrow and Ball pallet that the rest of the house enjoys extends to the upstairs. The pale grey and white master bedroom offers spectacular views over open countryside. The perfect sight to wake up to on your stay in the Lakes. This is also the ideal spot to take pictures of the steam train as it chugs past the end of the garden. Choose how you want to start your day in the family bathroom, either with a lazy morning bubble bath, or a quick refreshing shower. Outside, there is a lovely enclosed garden to the front, with a patio area, and uninterrupted views. At the back there is ample parking. One minute walk from the property is the award winning Swan Hotel and Spa, which has great beer, a fantastic pub grub menu and a fine dining restaurant. Not to mention a 5* Spa for when you fancy a little extra pampering. There’s a great nature trail and playground out the back of the hotel that can keep kids amused for hours. Day or night the Swan is such a short stroll away it gives you the option of food and drink on tap with no washing up, and no designated driver! There is a really well stocked convenience store a 2 minute drive away in Newby Bridge where you can get all your essentials and more (a Costa Express) or there’s a Booths a 15 minute drive away in Ulverston. There’s fantastic walking in this part of the lakes, whether it’s a good fell walk you are after, or a long beach or promenade stroll. Newby Bridge is within a short drive of Cartmel, Bowness on Windermere, Windermere, Ambleside, Kendal, Ulverston and Grange over Sands. Coniston is also very accessible. There are endless gourmet pubs dotted around the area and an abundance of places to eat and drink in any of the towns. There’s even two Michelin Star restaurants nearby. Days out within easy reach include boat trips on Windermere, swinging through tree tops at Go Ape in Grizedale Forest, trying your luck at horse riding at Bigland Hall, or discovering thrilling watersports activities on Coniston Water. There's even plenty to do on a rainy day, from Cliffhanger Escape Rooms to the Lakeland Motor Museum, and the Lakes Aquarium. Don't miss the chance to visit Fell Foot Park (National Trust), a 2 minute drove from the house or slide on your walking boots and ramble up Gummers Howe, before treating yourself to Sunday Lunch at the renowned Mason’s Arms on Strawberry bank. Whatever your taste in Lake District holidays, 7 Railway Cottages is the perfect base from which to enjoy it.
