About this property

A romantic penthouse in the heart of Grasmere, High Raise offers couples the perfect spot from which to make the most of everything the Lake District has to offer. Loughrigg, Rydal Water and Easedale Tarn are in easy reach, with more demanding climbs close by. Grasmere itself is a haven for culture vultures and foodies, not forgetting the famous Grasmere Gingerbread and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage.

A private parking space is provided for guests of High Raise. From here an external staircase leads up to the apartment’s private entrance, and an internal staircase to the luxury living space with its magnificent views. The stylish furnishings, exposed beams and sloping ceilings make this a welcoming and exceedingly comfortable home from home, with large picture windows making the most of the surrounding views. Neutral tones work well with the exposed wood and stonework, and the large, comfortable bed guarantees a great night’s sleep. The superb kitchen is well equipped with full size electric oven and dining area, perfect for a lazy breakfast or romantic evening meal.

For those hoping to tick off a few mountains on their Lake District bucket list, the starting point for a popular route up Helvellyn is only a short drive away. The vibrant village of Ambleside with its two quirky cinemas, independent shops and yet more superb restaurants, tea rooms and cafés is only five minutes down the road. High Raise has so much to offer, all year round.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

We had a great 3 night stay, right in the centre of Grasmere. The photos don’t do it justice. Super clean and cosy and had everything we needed. Would definitely stay again.

The location is excellent and we didn't need to use our car all week. The property itself is very comfortable with an amazing bed and relaxing living room. A couple of minor things could make it even better. Firstly black out blinds in the bedroom as it gets a lot of light in the morning. The kitchen was well equipped but really missed a pair of tongs. And lastly the plugs for the kitchen sink were missing so washing up had to be done in a washing up bowl. This is fine but the bowl was tiny and only fits a side plate. So a bigger bowl would be helpful.

We had a rainy week so spent more time in the accommodation than we planned, so the comforts were really appreciated, booked for Xmas 2024, can’t wait. Mr S G C Jude
