About this property

This cosy, all-ground-floor, stone cottage is located in the peaceful village of Near Sawrey, within touching distance of Esthwaite Water. Windermere boasts stunning countryside views towards the Langdale Pikes, and offers charming accommodation for a couple or small family wanting to enjoy the best of the Lake District's attractions, many of which are just a short distance from the property. Inside, the property comprises an open-plan living room with a newly fitted kitchen, complete with all the mod cons you could wish for, as well as having a shared laundry facility on-site for added convenience, plus a dining table to enjoy meals together and a cosy sitting room with a woodburning stove and wall mounted TV. There are two spacious bedrooms, a king-size double and a twin, both served by a shower room with walk-in shower. Outside there is off-road parking for two cars in the shared courtyard, as well as a small, enclosed patio with furniture, accessed through patio doors in the twin bedroom, where you can sit out with a morning coffee and enjoy your scenic, peaceful setting. Head to Hawkshead, just over two miles away, for a great selection of shops, pubs and eateries, and take advantage of your lakeside location with a stroll around Esthwaite Water, or the equally stunning lakes of Windermere and Coniston Water, just a few miles away. Head to the National Trust's Hill Top, the former home and writing spot of author Beatrix Potter, and one of the most visited Lake District attractions, as well as enjoying a woodland walk or exhilarating tree top adventure at Grizedale Forest. Windermere is well-placed for discovering the best of the Lake District.

The village of Sawrey is two miles from Hawkshead on the eastern side of Esthwaite Water. Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the farmhouse where author Beatrix Potter wrote many of her books and now a museum owned by the National Trust. Far Sawrey is close to the ferry point on Windermere and has good walks nearby, including Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest. It's also a great base for enjoying watersports, fishing and fell walking.

Could be tricky. Might be an idea to have mattress and pillow covers. Fan in shower room not operating and there was some damp in corridor by bedroom door. Assume was rain getting under roof tiles and running down internal wall. Needs attention. However, I loved location and out look, and suspect in the sunshine must be amazing. Perfect for short walks in the rain with my dog and waking to just the sound of pheasants and blackbirds was spot on. Calm and peaceful despite Debi’s worst!

Clean and well maintained although it did have a smell of wet dog so I assume there had been a dog with previous customers. Lovely setting and very tranquil. Will definitely be back.

You are very close to Beatrix Potter's house and have plenty of great scenery and walks close by. Aside from the fact that the lake district is now ever more expensive than ever before with car parking and food rocketing plus quality declining the cottage was great.
