About this property

This spacious, ground floor cottage-apartment has two-bedrooms sleeping up to four people, with the accommodation all on one-level. It is situated in a pretty little cul-de-sac, alongside the mature grounds of a former country hotel. The centre of Ambleside, which is situated at the heart of the Lake District National Park, is just a five-minute stroll away.

Walk up to the covered porch and enter your lovely open plan L shaped sitting room with dining and kitchen area. After your journey sit and relax on the comfortable furniture and unwind in this sunny and stylish room or go outside to your small patio area with a drink, to enjoy the lovely views to Wansfell Pike and to hear the distant sound of Stock Ghyll Beck.

Discover your comfortable bedrooms, situated privately at each end of your sitting room, where you will find a twin room which has use of its own but separate bathroom and a double with king-size bed and en-suite walk in shower.

Take an easy walk into the centre of town to find excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs. Walk into beautiful Rothay Park and picnic by the river or play tennis and bowls at the recreation ground next door. Walk a further fifteen-minutes to Waterhead and enjoy a cruise on gorgeous Lake Windermere or hire a boat to explore its secluded bays.

Choose one of the many spectacular walks that are available to you right from your doorstep and experience some of the most spectacular and idyllic walks in the Lake District. Tour the area by car or by bus, passing by sparkling lakes and driving through dramatic valleys as you discover the National Park’s towns and villages, each with its own unique character.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Our only criticisms are that the description suggests there is a garden but there is not. It is just a shared slabbed area at the front of the property which is not enclosed. Secondly on the day we arrived i received a message to say that there was scaffolding on the property but not to be alarmed as it would be removed on the Monday. Unfortunately it was not removed until the Friday and made the cottage seem very dark inside during our stay

Full refurbishment and deep clean needed. I pulled the drawers out in the bedroom to plug in MY HAIRDRYER and there was plaster and dust behind not just recent looks like months. There’s an inflatable dinghy or paddle board but not a simple thing like an hairdryer. WHY it has been mentioned in review’s many times . The drain in the shower cubicle needs cleaning out as it’s like a paddling pool also the wall behind the cooker needs cleaning thoroughly as it’s covered with cooking fat splashes not very hygienic. I would say get different cleaners in as they are not doing their job thoroughly. All skirting boards need cleaning I didn’t move the settees as I was afraid what I would find. All in all it was handy for the town and commuting when we actually found the cottage not too easy.

We enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider booking again. The property would benefit from a lick of paint and a good clean. A description of the 'smart hub' feature on the tv should be included in the property description fixed to the kitchen wall and in the Lake Lovers folder.
