Blue Duck is a contemporary, one-bedroom detached Lakeland retreat resting within a quiet hamlet on the edge of Hawkshead and Grizedale forest. This single-storey property offers breath-taking views over the wooded hills of Beatrix Potter country with Esthwaite Water glimpsed in the valley below. The Blue Duck is a romantic, pet-friendly hideaway suitable for any occasion with your pooch. Named after a well-known, special place in Perth by its proud Australian owners, The Blue Duck is a cool property to stay whilst you recharge those batteries. Completed in traditional Lakeland style externally, but once inside you'll be amazed by this chic property, complete with a wall of glass allowing lots of light to flood in.
Oak beams, a vaulted ceiling and oak floorings contrast with the plush, deep-cushioned furnishings and the wood burning stove that is perfect for those snug nights in. Keen cooks will be delighted with the state-of-the-art kitchen, whilst the elevated terrace overlooking the lake is a great place to catch some quiet time. When sleep calls, a double bedroom awaits, serviced by a sleek bathroom. The picture postcard village of Hawkshead is a short walk away, home to an array of great eateries and for those with a sense of adventure why not try 'Go Ape' in Grizedale, right on your doorstep.
Head into Bowness-on-Windemere, a beautiful town in the heart of the English Lake District. It is home to some of the most stunning scenery in the country and is a popular tourist destination. The town has several great attractions, including Orrest Head Viewpoint, National Trust - Claife Viewing Station and Windermere West Shore, Holehird Gardens. Kendal is also within reach, a lovely town, full of history and culture. The Kendal Museum is a great place to learn about the area's past, and the Quaker Tapestry Museum is a must-see for anyone interested in needlework. For a romantic retreat to Cumbria, choose The Blue Duck.
Hawkshead's charm and character won over William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can walk narrow passageways, thoroughfares, archways, and courtyards between whitewashed 17th-century buildings. The village has many inns, teashops, guesthouses, and gift shops, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which displays the author's illustrations and stories. William Wordsworth attended the Old Grammar School at Hawkshead from 1779 to 1787. You may tour the school and see the desk where he scrawled his name as a child. Newby Bridge is 10 miles away and has the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises. Hawkshead has beautiful landscape and many sights within easy travelling distance.

A cute little cottage situated in a great location. All of the facilities were great a good clean bathroom with a good shower and a good sized kitchen with all the utensils you need, the bed and sofa were comfy and the tv a good size. We loved the addition of the balcony which was lovely to sit out on to eat meals and relax after a day of exploring the lakes and the little walk through the fields to hawkshead (5mins walk) was a lovely start to the day. The only things that could have made the stay better (very small things as we loved it) would be a welcome pack with the basics of walks, how things work and just a little explanation about it would have been great and maybe a small care package such as a little bit of milk, butter and bread) just because the co-op are struggling with staff currently so are shutting early and it wouldâve been a 20+ minute drive to get these items. We would highly recommend staying here and will definitely be back!

access to bathroom rather tight. Very narrow lane up to cottage.

Well maintained, clean and comfortable - with a well equipped kitchen. A couple of points though.... some hooks in the bathroom to hang towels etc would be great as would a couple in the kitchen. The steps upto the property could possibly present an issue to anyone with limited mobility. We had a great couple of days here to chill, relax and unwind. I would recommend staying here and would definitely stay again
