Snaptrip says

Striding Home is a spacious and well-situated property in Ambleside, offering stunning views and a comfortable stay. Guests appreciate the ample parking, the variety of rooms, and the well-equipped kitchen. While some guests mention issues with maintenance and comfort, the overall experience is positive, with many choosing to rebook for future stays.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property is generally found to be clean and well-maintained, though a few guests noted areas where dusting was overlooked and one instance of a blocked shower drain. The majority of reviews, however, do not raise cleanliness as a concern, indicating satisfaction with the property's hygiene standards.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local amenities and scenic walks, with guests appreciating the ability to hike directly from the house. The stunning views of the lake and surrounding fells are frequently mentioned as a highlight.

Comfort receives mixed reviews. While many guests find the beds comfortable and the house spacious, there are several mentions of an uncomfortable mattress, stiff drawers, and creaky floorboards. The living room furniture and sofas also received criticism for comfort.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and useful utility room. However, there are recurring issues with maintenance such as problematic showers, a broken patio door, and outdated appliances. Despite these issues, the presence of games, musical instruments, and a drying room are positively noted.

There is insufficient information to score thoughtfulness accurately. While some guests were disappointed with the lack of a welcome pack and the absence of hand soap, there is no mention of gifts that would indicate the level of thoughtfulness in hosting.

About this property

A spacious split-level detached house in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of Ambleside. Striding Home has good south and westerly views to the fells and mountains with Lake Windermere in the valley below. The garden backs onto open fields with Wansfell behind. Ambleside village centre is within easy walking distance. Lake cruises can be enjoyed on Windermere and with many walks in the area there is very little need to use the car on a daily basis.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Comfortable and clean. Central heating warms the place up quickly. Amazing walk-in shower. Just a stone’s throw away from the shops, restaurants and great walks nearby. Amazing views of the lake and surrounding fells. Total bonus having use of the piano which the kids absolutely loved. Huge dining table and separate utility room with washing machine etc. Made some great memories at Striding Home - thank you so much!

The only thing that could be improved is having soap in every bathroom including some shower gel and more toilet paper, but apart from that it was an amazing stay and I recommend it to everybody. It is in a great location where you can leave your car and hike from the house.

Close enough to Ambleside for provisions and hostelries but some lovely walks from the door. As a mixed age group from 18 months old to 70 years, we were delighted with the location. The house is a real home away from home and we would very happily stay again. We visit the Lakes every year at this time and this is the best rental we have had. Thankyou
