Snaptrip says

Rothay 18 is a well-regarded cottage in Ambleside, praised for its stunning views, convenient location, and overall comfort. Guests have enjoyed the proximity to the village, the peaceful environment, and the well-appointed rooms. While there have been some issues with cleanliness and maintenance, these appear to be exceptions rather than the rule. The property's setting allows for easy access to local walks and the town's amenities, making it a favoured choice for visitors to the Lake District.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Cleanliness has received mixed feedback. While some guests found the property clean and well laid out, there were notable instances of the apartment not being cleaned to a satisfactory standard upon arrival. These incidents seem to be isolated rather than widespread.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views and proximity to the town centre, with many guests appreciating the short walk to local amenities and the ease of access to walking routes. The peacefulness and convenience of the location contribute to its high rating.

Comfort is generally well-received, with guests mentioning comfy beds and a well laid out property. However, there were a few comments about uncomfortable sofas and armchairs, and one mention of a rock-hard bed, which slightly lowers the score.

Facilities are mostly appreciated, especially the well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms. However, there have been issues with hot water supply and a non-operational swimming pool, which have impacted some guests' stays. Maintenance concerns, such as difficulty with key access and worn heater buttons, have also been noted.

There is insufficient information to accurately score thoughtfulness. While a small welcome cleaning box is mentioned, there is no consistent reference to gifts or additional thoughtful touches that would allow for a fair assessment.

About this property

Rothay 18 is a lovely two-bedroom apartment set over two floors, in an exclusive holiday complex overlooking the traditional Lakeland town of Ambleside and the fells beyond. The apartment is set away from the hustle and bustle of the town, yet close enough to enjoy its attractions. There are magnificent views from all parts, and it is a good holiday home for a family or two couples.

Walk through the entrance hall into your impressive and comfortable sitting room with natural light pouring through the full height windows and gaze out to spectacular views to Loughrigg and beyond. Go through the elegant double doors into your impressive dining area which sits alongside the cheerful and modern kitchen. Sit on your sunny terrace, take in the stunning views and start to plan your holiday adventure.

On this floor, find your shower room with underfloor heating before heading upstairs to discover two beautifully appointed bedrooms, a lovely double bedroom with king-size bed and a spacious twin bedroom. Both have magnificent views of the town’s church steeple, spectacularly set against the beautiful distant fells. You will also find a smartly decorated bathroom with bath and underfloor heating.

Take a short but steep downhill walk to bustling Ambleside, to browse the independent shops and enjoy one of its excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs. Walk a further fifteen minutes to Waterhead to enjoy a cruise on beautiful Lake Windermere or hire your own boat to explore its secluded bays.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Ideal for us as a family with two young children. Would definitely stay again.

Very many thanks. The one tiny problem we had was reaching the cupboard/ shelf where the cups are. I had to climb up on a chair.

We spent all our days out hiking and exploring without any need to jump in the car due to the apartment's great location. Due to unprecedented heavy snow we had to extend our stay by a night as the roads were impassable. The apartment owners and property management company were fantastic and extremely helpful throughout, I can't thank them enough. They turned what was a somewhat stressful situation into a great and memorable end to our trip.
