Those enchanting hills surround the village. Ambleside is a well-known walker's hub, and the scenery really is outstanding. You can happily ditch the car with the conveniently provided parking permit and walk from your door up Loughrigg and Wansfell, conquer towering Red Screes, or take on the fabulous day hike of the Fairfield Horseshoe, with its unrivalled panoramic views across the Southern Lakes.
You can easily wander, too, to all the enticing eateries, baker's shops, wine bars and old Cumbrian inns that Ambleside has to offer. Zeffirelli's is a jazz bar with attached cinema, and its restaurant offers excellent vegetarian fare; it's great for a romantic evening together, with just a few moments stroll back to your apartment. Even closer is the cosy Priest Hole restaurant, and the celebrated Michelin-starred Stamp House is just across the road.
Day's out can be simply spent perusing the pretty streets and sampling the many attractions of Ambleside, but you can also hop on a steamer at Waterhead and cruise down to Bowness or to stunning Wray Castle on the western shore of Windermere. Why not hire your own rowboat and take a picnic hamper for a really romantic and relaxed afternoon? If you do fancy a run out in your car, though, you have the whole of the South Lakes spread out about you; be sure to take a trip to the beautiful Langdale valleys.
A true Lakeland love-nest, Old Wool Loft offers the luxury and the location for a thoroughly memorable holiday for two!
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Luxurious yet practical. Literally had everything you could want: comfy bed, gorgeous bath, cosy living space, massive TV, fully functioning kitchen, great bathroom. The parking permit was ideal. Itâs in the heart of it all and near all the great pubs and restaurants. Loads of space to dry clothes and boots after walks. We will certainly be back to this gem!

Very comfortable and ideally positioned right in the heart of Ambleside. The parking permit was a great bonus. From previous experience with these cottages weâve learnt to take the basics. Toilet roll. Hand wash, washing up liquid, logs etc as you will only get enough for the first day! It rained every day so we didnât sit out on the balcony but it is definitely in need of some tlc but it wouldnât put me off booking again.

It's very private although near all the eateries and shops. It's furnished very well with lots of different lighting to set the mood, the corner sofa is clean and comfortable. The bed is huge and felt like I was sleeping in a cloud, with a beautiful free standing mirror that bounced light around the room. Loved the freestanding bath in the bedroom, lovely touch. The rooftop garden space was great to sit and relax albeit still winter. All in all we had a perfect weekend and there are plenty of walks from the doorstep too.
