Snaptrip says

Merewood Lodge is a property with a convenient location and a layout that is appreciated by guests. The upstairs lounge and kitchen offer pleasant views, and the proximity to local attractions is a plus. Some guests have enjoyed a clean, comfortable, and well-equipped stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including dirt, hair, mould, and musty smells. Some guests found the property clean, but the majority reported it not meeting expectations, affecting the score significantly.

The location is frequently praised for its convenience and proximity to local attractions, with guests appreciating the easy access to public transport and nearby amenities.

Guests have mixed feelings about comfort; some found the property damp and the beds uncomfortable, while others had a comfortable stay. The presence of dampness and noise issues from the boiler has impacted the score.

Facilities and maintenance are areas of concern, with reports of outdated amenities, mould, and a need for updates. Positive comments about the kitchen being well-equipped are overshadowed by the maintenance issues.

While an instance of a complimentary bottle of Prosecco was mentioned as an apology for issues encountered, there is insufficient information to assess the overall thoughtfulness consistently across reviews. Therefore, this score is set to null, and it should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed.

About this property

This welcoming Lakeland retreat, just a five minute stroll from Lake Windermere, blends the best of contemporary living with timeless elegance. Each and every room has been tastefully furnished with an eye for supreme comfort as well as style. Luxurious wall-to-wall carpets in the sitting room and bedrooms, deep-cushioned leather sofas and stunning bathrooms.

Merewood Lodge, once a coach house and stables to the 1st Earl of Lonsdale, has been painstakingly converted into a luxury holiday home in an utterly glorious setting. One of a select group of cottages, this is the perfect base for exploring the Lake District.

The entrance hall is a good size, ideal for storing walking boots and outdoor clothing. Bedrooms are also on the ground floor, allowing the best views to be enjoyed from the shared living space on the first floor. All three bedrooms are equally fabulous with top notch bed linen and furnishings. One of the two king size rooms comes with an en-suite shower room, while the second king size and a twin share the house bathroom with both bath and shower facilities.

An enormous kitchen is superbly equipped, with a casual dining table perfect for early morning chats over coffee. The sitting/dining room is breath-taking. Light and airy, with access to a balcony that overlooks the beautifully maintained shared cottage garden. Once again, the décor is faultless and the luxury sofas just far too tempting.

The property is just a few minutes from the National Park Visitor Centre at Brockhole, with the nearby village of Windermere being the perfect place to stock up on flowers, groceries, wine and local ales. The quirky village of Ambleside is always a popular destination with its award winning restaurants, independent cinemas and interesting boutiques. With all this on the doorstep, Merewood Lodge is somewhere guests will want to return to time after time.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The house was cold on arrival. The boiler has obviously been replaced and, in our opinion, the heating is poor. We couldn't work out how to operate it initially and there were no instructions (we only found the purple folder on Wednesday stuffed into a cupboard). Both ovens need cleaning, the trays and shelves are covered in grease and sticky. The pots and pans weren't particularly clean either. This may be up to the renters but should be checked - we shouldn't have to clean up after other people. There were numerous cobwebs, the carpets hadn't been properly vacuumed (apart from dust and cobwebs there were quite a few dead woodlice and other bugs), the border tiles in the en-suite were grubby, we also think that there has been a slug problem as there are silver trails in the bay window. There was no Xmas tree up as there was last year, a small thing but a welcoming gesture. If we'd known we would have brought our own. We noticed that the property was put up for sale and in our opinion there is now a lack of care in the presentation. We don't think anyone came in to clean or prepare the property properly prior to our arrival, somebody may have had a cursory look around but that's all. All in all a disappointing stay.

The house was in good order, well maintained and of a high standard, I have no problem recommending this property.
