Courtyard Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its central location, cosy aesthetic, and well-equipped kitchen. The charming courtyard adds to its appeal. However, parking is challenging due to a steep slope, and some guests noted issues with dampness and cleanliness.
Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the cottage spotless, while others reported unpleasant odours, dampness, and a lack of thorough cleaning. The presence of dog hair and mould was noted, suggesting inconsistency in cleaning standards.
The cottage's location is highly praised for being central and convenient, close to shops, pubs, and restaurants. Despite the challenging parking, the provision of a parking permit and the property's proximity to amenities are appreciated.
Guests find the cottage cosy and comfortable, especially after a day out walking. However, some guests mentioned issues with dampness affecting comfort, and the mattresses received mixed reviews, with some finding them too hard.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and good amenities. Maintenance issues such as dampness, mould, and appliance malfunctions detract from the overall experience. The parking situation is frequently mentioned as problematic.

Courtyard Cottage provides a charming base for a relaxing break in the heart of the Lake District.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force.
