Snaptrip says

Chapelside Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its excellent location, cleanliness, and well-equipped nature. Guests appreciate the upside-down layout with comfortable furnishings and the proximity to local amenities. The quiet setting and views are also highlights, although some mention issues with creaky floorboards and tight parking.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property generally receives high marks for cleanliness, with several guests noting it as 'immaculately clean' and 'spotlessly clean on arrival'. However, a few guests mentioned areas that could benefit from deeper cleaning or minor oversights, slightly affecting the overall perception.

The location is highly praised for being quiet yet within a short walking distance to the centre of Ambleside, offering easy access to shops, restaurants, and walks. The hilltop position provides pleasant views, contributing to the property's appeal.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and a cosy atmosphere. However, the comfort score is slightly reduced due to comments about creaky floorboards and a musty smell in the downstairs area.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, especially the well-equipped kitchen and the inclusion of internet and TV. Some guests noted issues with hot water, a broken blind, and a lack of certain kitchen items, indicating room for improvement in maintenance.

There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches left for guests, so it is not possible to provide a score for thoughtfulness. Guests should note that while the property offers many amenities, personal touches such as gifts are not guaranteed.

Gather friends and family to enjoy this idyllic location, filled with plenty of attractions to ensure an unforgettable holiday. The property is set out in a reverse level style with the bedrooms downstairs and the living areas upstairs to take advantage of the sweeping views. Fulfilling your culinary needs is a well-equipped, cream shaker style kitchen where you will be delighted to rustle up an evening meal. Completing the interior are three well-dressed bedrooms, including a king-size with en-suite shower, a twin and single, making this cottage ideal for families. If you’re a fan of Beatrix Potter then you must explore the World of Beatrix Potter attraction in Bowness or visit Hill Top, her former 17th century farmhouse which is now a National Trust owned property. Explore the woods at Orrest Head where you will discover unrivalled views of the lakes that are so breath-taking, they inspired British author Alfred Wainwright to move to Cumbria in order to spend his life wandering the fells. For a memorable holiday celebrating time your nearest and dearest, consider Chapelside Cottage for your next Lake District escape.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The cottage is extremely comfortable and well decorated. It would be nice if some small items could be left in the house for guests (e.g., salt, pepper, oil, hand soap, spare loo roll etc.).

  • Diane

The lounge area and kitchen are lovely with great views. However, the constant creaking and noise of the floorboards on the upstairs level was severe. For a house built fairly recently this was very unexpected. It was so bad and we disturbed each other's sleep constantly, we would never return to this property, or recommend it. It would be okay if everyone got up and went to bed at the same time but we didn't. Also, the parking, although there is a designated space that is ample, the access is very tight and precarious

It was extremely comfortable and kept us positive on a few rainy days in the lakes!
