With a contemporary style within along with bike storage and a garden, it has everything you need for a great self-catered stay in the Lake District. Hang up your coats and leave your boots in the hall before finding a snug spot to relax in the L-shaped open-plan living space, where a vibrant green sofa and leather sofa are perched perfectly before the Smart LCD TV and warming gas stove. When the group is feeling peckish head into the kitchen and dining space around the corner to rustle up a tasty dish for everyone, with a beautiful fitted kitchen holding everything you need including an electric double oven, gas hob, and with convenient appliances like a dishwasher and a washer/dryer too, your self-catered stay will be a breeze! A stunning contemporary shower room serves as a wonderful space to freshen up, before settling down in one of the two elegant bedrooms; choose from either the king-size or the twin bedroom, with crisp white bed linen to cosy under as you enjoy a lie-in in the mornings watching TV from the comfort of the covers. Step outside into the spacious patio area outside in the morning with your cup of coffee, with this charming area also perfect for evening drinks after another action-packed day. When you’re exploring the local area, you can leave your car on the drive and venture out on foot, with the many amenities of Ambleside within walking distance as well as the magnificent Lake Windermere. Dine in one of the lovely local restaurants, cafés or pubs with plenty to choose from for all tastes, and browse the independent shops and boutiques for some souvenirs to bring home, with Ambleside also home to The Bridge House, a quirky 17th century stone house resting on a bridge over the Stoke Beck River. Follow the river up to the beautiful Stock Ghyll Force, a staggering 70ft waterfall in an idyllic woodland setting with a fantastic viewpoint to marvel at this natural spectacle, then for a longer ramble head up Wansfell Pike and take in the stunning views of Lake Windermere from here. Hop onto a Lake cruise and travel down along the scenic waters to Bowness-on-Windermere to visit The World of Beatrix Potter, great for all ages, as well as learning of the local history at Windermere Jetty Museum telling the rich history of England’s largest natural lake. Walkers can enjoy an excellent choice of peaks to roam, including Helvellyn, Red Screes, and Fairfield Peak all to the north of Ambleside, while heading south can bring you to the wondrous Grizedale Forest where you can delight in an adventure through the trees at Go Ape where zip-lines and rope courses offer an exciting day out! Store your bikes in the garage and bring them out to explore the Lakes on two wheels, with many cycling routes available to try. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Lakes, returning each day to the comfort of Beckside.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

After staying at this property numerous times in the past and always been more than happy we feel that standards have slipped. The toilet flush is still not mended even though we mentioned it last time. There is a terrible drain smell in the hallway and front bedroom particularly after it rains. Most annoying was the broken door catch leading into the living room. Which we contacted ‘heart of the lakes’ about. We left the key in the key safe as instructed and the maintenance team came to look, they took the catch out and left a note saying they would return the next day so we left the key again but nobody came back. We had to use a door stop to close the door so as to keep the heat in on a night. Very disappointing.

It was our first visit to the Lakes so the property was so ideally placed for the lovely walk into Ambleside, and the many lovely walks, also the nearby garden centre was great too. The property was lovely and cosy and plenty of space for us as a family of four, the views from the property were amazing. We would highlight recommend this property and the location. Thank-you :-) Emma

However, we parked on the road outside as I wasn’t confident about using the very steep drive. The lavatory flush was a bit troublesome and could maybe do with some attention, often taking several attempts to get it to work. On arrival the floors had obviously been cleaned, but some of the other surfaces were a bit dusty and cobwebby. These were minor issues which didn’t spoil our holiday and we would happily book this property again.
