South View Cottage is an idyllic Lakeland cottage in a wonderful location a short walk to the famous Tarn Hows with many walks starting from the doorstep. This beautiful whitewashed cottage was built in the late 17th century and boasts a wealth of original features throughout including exposed beams and oak doors. The owners have lovingly created a welcoming home with all modern comforts. As the name suggests this beautiful cottage is south facing and there are lovely panoramic views across the Esthwaite Valley. It is also a short stroll from the village of Hawkshead with its local facilities and atmospheric pubs, it is also of equal distance to the famous local pub, The Drunken Duck.
This picture postcard cottage is entered by the stable door leading into attractive hallway with tiled floor, open staircase.
The lounge is spacious and light and airy. This lovely, dual aspect room has a wood burning stove set on slate hearth and oak mantel as a wonderful focal point for this room. The room is comfortably furnished with Laura Ashley furniture and decor, and has a flat screen TV and DVD. - a perfect room to relax in after a day exploring the Lakes with a glass of wine or local beer.
Across the hallway is the spacious farmhouse kitchen/dining room. There is an electric AGA and the option of a separate four ring electric hob and electric oven. There is a microwave, dishwasher and large Smeg fridge freezer. This large room has exposed beams, tiled floor and attractive views across the countryside towards Latterbarrow. This room is the heart of the cottage and we are sure guests will spend many happy hours discussing the days adventures over the large farmhouse table.
Off this room there is the very useful shower room/laundry. This room has a corner shower cubicle, WC and basin and also a washing machine and tumble drier.
The cottage has been extended into the neighbouring barn to create a wonderful L shaped room. With it’s multi fuel stove mounted on a granite base and exposed beams this is a lovely contemporary room. Deep, comfy sofas and a large wall mounted TV allows guests to have the luxury of a Cinema/games room, complete with its own table football. Ideal to entertain in the evenings.
Upstairs there are three beautiful bedrooms - all with wonderful views across the surrounding countryside and exposed beams. There is one king sized bedroom, one double bedroom and the third twin bedroom, again all furnished in Laura Ashley and White Company.
On this floor there is a the main family bathroom with a duo bath with shower attachment, hand basin and WC. This charming room also has exposed beams, heated towel rail and electric shaver point.
Outside South View Cottage has generous parking for at least four vehicles. Directly in front of the house is a small shrubbed area and patio with seating - perfect for soaking up the sun and enjoying the tranquility and sounds of the countryside in the morning or early evening. There is also a lawned area with seating giving terrific fell and country views, ideal for a picnic overlooking the splendour of the Lake District.
To the rear of the property is a very useful store room/cellar which is perfect for storing bikes or other equipment or your muddy boots.
The cottage is heated by oil fired central heating and is perfect for holidays at any time of year.

South View was warm and welcoming on arrival with a friendly ambience. Everything was as shown in photographs and made for a comfortable stay. We especially liked walks from the cottage door, leaving the car behind. Log burners very efficient and easy to light, providing a cosy sitting room to relax in the evening, Main bedroom is spacious, but others are quite small, we were 4 adults for just 2 nights so fine for us. Definitely recommend for a comfortable weekend away.

This is possibly the best cottage we have stayed in in the Lakes! Beautifully decorated and furnished, incredibly comfy, we had a wonderful stay.

We were very pleased with South View Cottage. We came in February and the house was cosy and warm, it felt comfortable and relaxing. The facilities were good and it is in a lovely location, we walked out from the house to Tarn Hows one afternoon which was lovely. The description on the website was accurate and we would recommend it.
