We decided on a last minute short break with Lakeland Hideaways and chose Black Fell Cottage. Ideally situated a short drive from Hawkshead (or a longer but pleasant walk for those so inclined!) this is a large comfortable property with pleasant views down from the sizeable garden. The kitchen has recently been replaced and is very nice. The open fire quickly took the chill off the living room and there are storage and portable heaters for the rest of the house, making it a lovely place to come in winter. Beds very comfortable, as are the sofas and chairs in the living room.

The cottage suited our family needs well and we enjoyed our stay . We will return in the future. we just would have liked a blind on the front top bedroom velux window as believe it or not the moon shone straight in when we were there !Beautiful sight but not for sleep ! Also would be great to have garden birdfeeders as we saw good birdlife flitting about . Note from owners: There is an integral blind on the velux window in the bedroom which I think you may have missed although the moonlight does sound lovely!

We have had many fun weekends up in the Lakes and Black Fell cottage is wonderfully positioned in a rural location. We spend our days walking so only need somewhere warm and comfortable to spend the night. The inside of the cottage is simple, not smart or luxury but generally it has everything we need. Hot water can be a little temperamental but the open fire really gets the place lovely and cosy. The fitted kitchen could do with a little refreshing as it's worn out and the lawn could do with mowing to give it a slightly more 'cared for' feel. If you are looking for a simple, cost effective place to stay to enjoy the outdoors, this is perfect.
