For a more active outing, take a boat tour on Coniston Water, famed as the location for the Swallows and Amazons film, and keep an eye out for ospreys and herons along the way. Coniston is also home to the Coniston Boating Centre, where you can rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard to explore the lake. If you're feeling adventurous, go rock climbing or abseiling at one of the local climbing areas, such as Dow Crag or Black Crag, both located within a 20-mile radius of Coniston. Other activities in the Coniston area include visiting the Coniston Falconry Centre (6 miles), where you can see a variety of birds of prey up close, or horse riding at one of the local stables.
