Guests appreciate the cottage's excellent location with stunning views of Coniston Lake and easy access to local walks and amenities. The property's charm and well-equipped kitchen are noted, though some guests mention issues with maintenance and a lack of welcome gifts.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage is generally described as clean, with only one mention of dust on lampshades. The positive remarks about cleanliness in several reviews suggest a high standard.

The location is highly praised for its beautiful views and proximity to local attractions and amenities, making it a desirable spot for many visitors.

Comfort receives mixed reviews; while the bed is noted as comfortable and the cottage cosy, there are negative comments about an uncomfortable sofa and lack of wardrobes.

Facilities are adequate with a well-equipped kitchen, but there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as boiler pressure and a radiator needing replacement, suggesting room for improvement.

There is a lack of consistent mention of welcome gifts or extra touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owner. As such, it's not possible to provide a score in this category.

About this property

Settled on the outskirts of Coniston overlooking the lake is this traditional, end-terrace cottage, 1 Lake View. This cottage makes a lovely bolthole for families, couples, and friends looking to explore the Lake District by foot, bike or car, with The Ship Inn pub a stone's throw away, private parking, a woodburning stove, and a Smart TV for entertainment. Inside, you'll find space to leave muddy boots and outdoor gear, before making yourself at home in the kitchen/diner; it has everything you need for a self-catering stay including an electric oven and hob, washing machine, and dishwasher. Prepare a home-cooked dinner to be served at the farmhouse dining table for four, then make your way to the sitting room. Two armchairs and a sofa are set in front of the woodburning stove where you can watch the Smart TV or admire the views from the patio doors of the rolling hills, Grizedale and Lake Coniston. Why not take a glass of wine out to your private patio to make the most of the incredible views? As night falls, head upstairs to find two bedrooms, a double with lake views and a twin, along with a contemporary shower room with a spacious walk-in shower. Coniston is a great base for outdoor enthusiasts with climbing, walking, watersports, fishing and cycling to be enjoyed all year-round. Grizedale is a national forest with a variety of hiking or cycling trails, whilst the Lakeland Trail and the Coniston 14 are two popular annual events for runners. Coniston Water hosts a variety of waterspots and boating activities including the National Trust's Steam Yacht Gondola, a luxury yacht, but if you prefer staying on land, the mountains of The Old Man of Coniston, Scafell Pike, and Helvellyn are all within easy reach. The village of Coniston has a convenience store, The Ruskin Museum to discover local heritage, and walks from your doorstep through idyllic countryside to the likes of Coniston Copper Mines. For more attractions and amenities, head further afield to Hawkshead, Ambleside with its Roman Fort, and the bustling Lake Windermere where you can discover the history of Beatrix Potter, cruise along the lake, and wander the National Trust's Wray Castle. There's something for everyone on your next Lake District adventure at 1 Lake View.

The pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park. Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere, and Grasmere are just a short drive away. Coniston Old Man, Wetherlam, and Grizedale Forest offer great walking, biking, and climbing. The quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, while the less active can enjoy a cruise on the steam yacht 'Gondola' or visit Brantwood, John Ruskin's former home. Hawkshead, home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Tarn Hows, a popular beauty spot, and Esthwaite Water are nearby. A top destination year-round.

As a result we would definitely plan to return some day in the future. A previous reviewer had made a comment about the kitchen radiator (rusty) and I would agree this does need attention, it is the only item that lets the decor down!!

Missing basic utensils such as potatoes peeler and masher. A must for the Christmas Dinner!!!!!!! Lampshades especially ceiling ones extremely dusty. Other cottages stayed at over the Christmas period left mince pies crackers bottle of Prosecco. Nothing left at this cottage! Small wooden Christmas tree left which was neither good or required but the lights on it were faded because the batteries were running out. Generally needs freshening up with a kick of paint especially the radiator in the kitchen.
