About this property

Rothay cottage is an elegant Period home and a magically idyllic setting. It has beautiful views of the banks of River Rothay close to the famous ‘Stepping Stones’. This romantic Lakeland luxury has its origins in the 18th century, when you step inside, you’ll see how it has kept some of it’s historical origins and turned the house into the perfect place to relax and recuperate on a much needed holiday with your loved ones. The cottage combines the period features honouring its history, with modern-day appliances and additions to combine your home comforts with the desired get-away location.

Rothay Cottage can comfortably accommodate ten guests across five well-appointed bedrooms. On the ground floor is the modern and fully equipped kitchen with its range cooker. There is also an American fridge freezer complete with a wine cooler, so feel free to have a drink while socialising and enjoying your holiday here as you have a place to keep those bottles! Following on from the kitchen you’ll find two living areas. One has a beautiful open fire place as well as a TV with DVD player and an audio system with Bluetooth compatibility allowing you to play your own music. This room is a bright location as it has a stunning bay window that lets in plenty of natural light, but it also offers beautiful views from the comfort of your sofa or while sat in the bay window on the window seating – you’ll never want to close the curtains!

The other living area is a TV room: it has a smart TV, DVD player and a DVD library, so it’s the perfect place to gather around a bowl of popcorn (or multiple bowls!) and enjoy a movie in the evening or on a day where the weather isn’t in you favour. Just as the first living area, the TV room also has a beautiful bay window that offers stunning views. There is also a dining room on this floor, with beamed ceilings and an open fire place. It will seat everyone on an eclectic collection of chairs around the dining table. The ground floor, whilst having these amazing rooms, also has a necessary room: the utility area complete with washing machine and a dryer, and an ideal drying space if you do find yourselves wearing wet coats or shoes and need them to dry off.

Climb the staircase to the first floor and you’ll find a mixture of king-size rooms and double rooms. The first two rooms at the front of the house have en-suite monsoon shower rooms. They also have window seats in front of large windows that give you stunning views. The rooms are also equipped with smart TVs. The other king-size on this floor is a similar set up, just not at the front of the house it does, however, have its own bay window and smart TV. The final bedroom on this floor is a double bedroom. All the bedrooms are minimal in style, but elegant and comfortable. On this floor is also a marble bathroom with a double ended bath and a monsoon shower facility over the bath. When you carry on up the stairs, you’ll reach the loft room, the final bedroom in the property. It has sloping walls and so any tall people will have to mind their heads! The loft room has its own luxury bathroom complete with free standing bath and shower attachment.

The gardens that surround the property is a gorgeous location for picnics with your guests, playing games, and relaxing in the sun. There is a raised terrace area equipped with garden furniture for all, as well as its own stone folly. The views are spectacular and offer you plenty of chances to go for lovely walks and see it all up close. If the weather is kind to you, as we hope it is, you’ll find this garden a hard place to leave! This secluded retreat near lovely little Rydal Water boasts strong connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who was inspired by the stunning surroundings. The poet's favourite viewpoint can be reached on the western end of the lake the tranquil surroundings are truly inspirational! There are many walks, the difficulty ranging, direct from the house. The cottage is only a short distance from Ambleside where you’ll find a range of local shops, chances to eat at traditional pubs as well as amazing restaurants. For kids you’ll even find a cinema! And for the adults a live music bar. Additionally, Lake Windermere is a spectacular place to spend the day, watching the boats and having picnics. The house was booked as a base for our daughter's wedding in Cockermouth. It was perfect, with everything we could have wished for with the added bonus of a fabulous garden coupled with amazing views from the front of the house. First class property, would love to return in the future. Thank you.
