Ullswater, one of the loveliest lakes in the area, is just a mile to the north and provides ample opportunities for swimming, walking, sailing, or enjoying a picnic on the shore. If you visit nearby Howtown (3.5 miles), you can take a steamer across Ullswater to Glenridding, Pooley Bridge, and Aira Force. Martindale is a fantastic spot for walkers and cyclists, with nature lovers having the chance to spot a variety of wildlife. The market town of Penrith is located to the north (11 miles) and offers a fine selection of pubs, shops, and restaurants. Other local attractions include the Aira Force Waterfall (12 miles), Dalemain Mansion and Historic Gardens (8.5 miles), and Lowther Castle and Gardens (10 miles).
