You’ll be just 5 miles from the market town of Penrith, which has a good range of independent shops, restaurants, and pubs.

The 18th-century, sandstone cottage is set in a village that's a conservation area, and was designed by the renowned Georgian architect Robert Adam. Enter the property via a handy boot room with a Belfast sink, and into the spacious lounge. Here, you’ll find a collection of comfortable seating arranged around a Smart TV/DVD and a cosy wood burner. Also on the ground floor is a stylish kitchen/diner, where you can prepare tasty dinners and share memorable mealtimes at the pretty dining table. Upstairs are the two flexible bedrooms with zip-and-link beds, one super-king room with its own en-suite shower room, and one twin room. An elegant family shower room rounds off this fantastic holiday home. A quaint, enclosed courtyard garden is outside, with furniture for al fresco dining.

Head to Pooley Bridge (5.5 miles), at the northern end of Ullswater, to board one of the iconic steamers to explore the lake. The steamers stop at various jetties dotted around the lake, including the magnificent Aira Force Waterfall. A 20-mile, circular walk follows the shores of the lake, allowing you to explore the area on foot before hopping back on one of the steamers to complete your journey back to Pooley Bridge. Lowther Castle and Gardens (1 mile) makes a lovely day out, with fascinating ruins, attractive gardens, and a bird of prey centre with regular displays throughout the day.
