About this property

Millom 3.6 miles. The Red House is a delightful, two-bedroom home resting in the picturesque Lake District National Park near Millom, Cumbria. Perfect for families, friends or couples sharing, The Red House offers a pet-friendly abode, with stylish interiors and an enviable position, making it a wonderful choice for a rural getaway. Unload your belongings outside of the property, park up to a nearby roadside, and head indoors; you’ll struggle to miss the eye-catching exterior of your new home, complete with a lovely bench area to the front for a morning coffee. Step indoors and be welcomed by the contemporary living/dining room, where you can light the open fire, sink into the plush sofa, and catch up on your latest shows, before gathering for a delicious feast, prepared earlier in the well-equipped kitchen. The kitchen is complete with all the essentials required for a self-catered stay, even including a washer/dryer, so you can keep on top of your muddy walking gear. Once you’re ready for bed, head up to the first floor where you’ll find an inviting king-size bedroom, with a handy cloakroom next door. Following the final staircase up to the second floor, rest and rejuvenate from the second king-size bedroom, before completing your morning routine in the sleek shower room. On your doorstep, approximately 200 meters away, you’ll locate the Miners Arms pub, where you can enjoy a tipple, whilst your nearest hub of shops and eateries lie in the coastal town of Millom, where you can also discover the remains of the Grade II listed Millom Castle, admire the views of the estuary and the sea from the top of Castle Bank, bird watch from RSPB Hodbarrow, or stroll along the beachfront. Beachgoers will relish in the chance to visit Silecroft and its amazing beach, only a short distance from the home, or for a day of hiking and exploring, Black Combe Mountain peak is within reach, with walks available from the village. For outdoor enthusiasts, Ambleside is the place to be, host to a variety of delightful lakeside walks, taking in the beauty of the national park, where you can also visit Borrans Park, Stock Ghyll Force, and The Bridge House, before taking to Windemere, Grasmere, and Kendal, all brimming with must-visit attractions. With all of this and more, a holiday at The Red House is full of possibilities.

This small coastal town on the southern edges of the Lake District National Park frames the northern shores of the estuary leading to the River Duddon. Millom Museum offers an insight to its past, with a reconstruction of a drift mine lending a nod to its iron and steel works. There is also a statue in the town centre, commemorating the iron industry, depicting 'The Scutcher' who stopped the iron ore tubs with and iron bar and his own strength. This town was also home to writer Norman Nicholson, who has a stained glass window in St. George's Church dedicated to his memory, while the strange 'fish' window in the Holy Trinity Church is also worth a visit. Discover the remains of Millom Castle and travel to nearby Haverigg, with its Blue Flag beach, a restored lighthouse and children's adventure play areas, for the ideal family day out. Also find the 7 tonne sculpture ‘Escape to Light’ positioned near to the Haverigg Inshore Rescue station, constructed by Josefina de Vasconcellos to pay tribute to the Inshore Rescue Teams in the UK. Other attractions in the region include the South Lakes Safari Zoo, Black Combe for walks with stunning views and Sandscale Haws, a National Nature Reserve with an outstanding dune habitat supporting a plethora of wildlife. Further afield are the delightful towns and villages of the Lakes District such as Grizedale, Ambleside and Windermere, not forgetting the abundant walking and cycling opportunities in the area. Enjoy an adventurous break in Cumbria.
