About this property

This delightful first-floor apartment for two is nestled down a quiet lane in the much-loved village of Portinscale. It's a spacious and well thought through property making an ideal jumping-off point for anyone looking to explore this wonderful area. Forming part of the former stables of an adjoining Victorian house, the cottage has bags of comfort and character as well as access to stunning shared grounds with magnificent views of the surrounding fells. While it is just a short potter to the centre of the village and all its amenities you feel a world away from any hustle and bustle in its tranquil grounds.

A paradise for walkers, cyclists and water lovers alike, Portinscale offers access to some of the Lake District's best fell walking right from the door. The iconic ridge of Catbells is nearby or for the well-prepared and experienced walker, why not tackle the mighty Coledale Horseshoe? If you'd be happier just taking a gentle potter around the village then it's also ideal as the cafes, pubs and marinas are also within easy reach. There's a landing stage for the Derwentwater Launch at nearby Nichol End Marina where you could hop on board one of its stately vessels. It's a delightfully relaxing way to enjoy the scenery. If you're feeling energetic you could take the launch into the jaws of picturesque Borrowdale and walk back along the side of the lake to the village, rewarding yourself with a scone along the way of course!

Guests at the apartment are also ideally placed to explore nearby Keswick. It's a vibrant and bustling Lakeland town with a wealth of attractions including an art deco cinema, award-winning museums and the beautifully situated Theatre by the Lake. Aside from these, visitors can also enjoy the great range of shops and eateries on offer in the town. It's just a 1-mile walk or a 5-minute drive from the apartment. For the history buffs among you, discover Castelrigg Stone Circle or literary lovers should head to nearby Mirehouse. The apartment really does make an ideal base to explore this lovely area as well as a tranquil setting to enjoy its own immediate surroundings.

On arrival at the house, guests enter directly from the designated parking area. The front door leads to a light, airy entrance hall with plenty of space for coats and muddy boots. The staircase to all of the accommodation leads up from here.

The open-plan living area has a lovely comfortable feel about it with its exposed beams, large window and door, sociable layout and electric flame-effect fire for chilly evenings. There is a sofa and armchair, Smart TV and DVD, and stereo. The owners have thoughtfully provided a selection of disks, books and maps for guests to enjoy during their stay. The kitchen and dining areas are well-equipped with dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer, raised double oven and halogen hobs. From this room, guests can access the staircase leading down to the lovely shared gardens.

Moving through to the bedroom, guests will find a delightful light space with a super-king-size bed which can be made up as twin beds should you prefer. There is a wardrobe, dressing table and drawers for storage and glorious elevated views of the grounds and surrounding fells from the window. The en-suite bathroom is spacious and has a shower over the bath.

Going down the external stone staircase to the shared grounds, guests will find wonderful mature gardens with thoughtful planting for year-round colour and some delightful places to sit and take in the views with an evening glass of wine.
