Trevene is a spacious cottage in a stunning location, ideal for walkers and nature enthusiasts. Guests appreciate the beautiful views, the proximity to local pubs and walks, and the comfortable beds. The sunroom with its valley views is a highlight, and the property's location allows for direct access to walks and lakes.
Several reviews mention issues with general cleanliness, overflowing bins, and untidiness in the garden. There are also references to worn sofas and mouldy mastic in bathrooms, indicating a need for improvement in cleanliness.
The location is highly praised for its beauty, with easy access to local walks, lakes, pubs, and cafes. The serene setting and proximity to Buttermere and the Lake District make it an excellent base for exploring.
While the beds are described as comfortable, several guests find the sofas worn and uncomfortable. There is also mention of a room with a damp problem, which affects the overall comfort level.
The property is well-equipped with kitchen utensils and an AGA, but there are reports of maintenance issues such as a dangerous oven door and a fridge not staying cold. The rubbish situation is a recurring problem that has not been addressed.
There is no mention of gifts or additional thoughtful touches provided by the owner, so it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness category.

A peaceful location, perfect for walkers. Some roads are narrow, twisty and steep so may not suit everyone. Well equipped and spacious cottage with beautiful views. WiFi connection but no phone signal. As per previous reviews, there is an issue with the bins which were overflowing with 2 bin bags left on top when we arrived. These were soon pecked open by the birds. There is simply not enough space in the one general waste bin given the collections are only every 2-3 weeks. The owner could alleviate the issue by applying for another larger general waste bin, and paying a local person to help supervise it. There is some misleading information left in the cottage implying that food waste can be left in the garden waste bin but after talking to neighbours, we think that only applies to unbagged, uncooked, vegetable/fruit waste. The local council are going to be rolling out food waste collections eventually which will help. It's a shame this place is spoilt by bins.

Trevene is a wonderful house in a beautiful location but a few details let the holiday down. The rubbish situation had not been rectified although flagged up many times by previous occupants with cottages.com who showed little concern. Bin dates are not clear in the house, so are not being put out. Sofas are uncomfy and need updating , disappointed AGA not on and the cooker / kitchen in need of revamp. Despite this we enjoyed our stay, but for the price house should have beem tickety boo.

Great holiday home in a great location which was unfortunately let down by the general cleanliness inside and the huge amount of rubbish outside, the smell of which was terrible and attracted a lot of flies. There were three wheelie bins overflowing plus a dozen or more bin liners in various piles so this has been an ongoing problem for months with no action taken. Due to animals or birds this resulted in rubbish strewn around the garden including feminine hygiene products. Inside it could generally benefit from a good vacuum including the sofas, although these were very tired and uncomfortable to sit on. One of the double bedrooms had a damp problem with evidence of water running down the walls. Whilst it appeared dry whilst we were there it was a room we were reluctant to use. In the kitchen the top oven door was dangerous as it automatically swung shut as you were reaching in resulting in a nasty burn on one occasion and several other near misses. Due to no phone signal and no email address to report issues this was only reported half way through our week. No action was taken and given the amount of rubbish and previous reviews on the problem they obviously don’t care!
