About this property

The Gate House Annexe is tucked away in the lively market town of Cockermouth, offering a well-considered base for couples or friends keen to explore the Lake District and its surrounding fells. Set within easy reach of the town’s independent shops, cafés and traditional pubs, it’s a place where you can settle in quickly and start making the most of your time away. Step inside and you’ll find an open-plan living space that neatly brings together the kitchen, dining and sitting areas. It’s an easy-going setting, suited to everything from slow breakfasts with the papers to relaxed evenings stretched out in front of the Smart TV.

The kitchen is equipped with all the essentials, whether you’re putting together a packed lunch for the day ahead or cooking up something more substantial after a long walk. When the day winds down, the super-king-size bedroom offers a flexible arrangement, easily set up as a twin on request. The en-suite walk-in shower room provides a bright, practical space to freshen up before heading out again or turning in for the night. With amenities just a short stroll away, you won’t need to venture far for supplies or a bite to eat. Beyond the town, the surrounding area opens up beautifully.

Spend time along the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, where peaceful waters and wide skies make for an easy escape, or head to Keswick, a bustling hub filled with outdoor shops, eateries and access to some of the region’s best-known walking routes. The dramatic landscapes of the Lake District National Park are close at hand, offering everything from gentle rambles to more demanding climbs. Well placed and straightforward, The Gate House Annexe is a solid choice for those wanting to explore this much-loved part of Cumbria without overcomplicating things.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
