Dobbin the horse box in The Lake District is a characterful converted horse box set in the grounds of an historic manor house in Cockermouth, Cumbria, offering parking, private gardens and a welcoming woodburning stove. Step inside to discover a studio-style open-plan layout, where two double bunk beds, a well-equipped kitchen and a dining area are cleverly arranged to make the most of the space. After days spent exploring the surrounding area, light the woodburning stove and settle into the snug sitting area, perhaps with a family film on the Smart TV and a favourite drink in hand.
The magic continues outside, where this unique hideaway really comes into its own. Open the door to the decked balcony, furnished for lingering over morning coffee or an evening glass of wine as you look out across the private gardens. Fire up the barbecue or the pizza oven for relaxed alfresco feasts, while the children enjoy the dedicated play area and the dog potters about the grass. With a family-friendly and pet-friendly set-up, Dobbin the horse box in The Lake District makes shared time together delightfully simple.
When it is time to explore, wander into Cockermouth to discover independent shops and the town’s links to the birthplace of William Wordsworth, before returning to the tranquillity of the manor grounds. Nearby Lake District landscapes invite you to spend whole days walking, picnicking and spotting wildlife. Further afield, Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwentwater and Keswick promise memorable family adventures, from lakeside strolls and boat trips to scenic day trips around the wider Lake District. However you choose to spend your break, Dobbin the horse box in The Lake District in Cockermouth, Cumbria, offers a distinctive base for a fun-filled Cumbrian escape.
The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
