It is a very well proportioned two bedroom house. No Wi-Fi which is unusual but because I was on busines it made it difficult and while the TV is smart you can only watch Freeview. No washing machine. On an 11 night stay I got four dishwasher tablets but advertised accurately so I was not misled just didn't look for Wi-Fi as it's standard these days so my error.

Alan's place is good value and provided a quite adequate stay but there are some areas that could be improved. On the positive side it is very near to the town centre and almost next door to an Aldi. It was very cold when we arrived and that itself was difficult as either the key or the lock don't work smoothly, but once in and having worked out how to put the heating on (we couldn't find any instructions) the house did warm up well. It did seem a little odd not to provide extra loo rolls or handwash soap in the bathroom. Per the description, there is no WiFi but there is a 4G mobile signal. The house was generally clean but some areas could do with a little refresh of the decoration.

On entry to the cottage we were hit by a strong smell of cigarette smoke, this is most likely caused by people not closing the back kitchen double doors when smoking in the rear garden. The carpets had black bits which were throughout the property, there was residue bits of food left on the kitchen table and also near the fire place in the front room. The extractor hood over the cooker needed a complete clen and the micro wave was also in need of a clean. We wanted to cook a meal but the cooking trays in the cupboard were un-usable. Only three bath towels and one hand towel is not enough for four adults during a three night stay and just one part toilet roll left for four people. The property itself was reasonable in many aspects such as comfortable beds, good heating system and showering facilities and comfortable furniture in the front room. The location was central to Cockermouth and ideally placed for the surrounding area.
