Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Catbells are all on your doorstep and there are lots of outdoor activities in the local area, including sailing, climbing and horse riding or 4x4 off roading. For adrenaline junkies why not try Go Ape or visit the local Alpaca centre where you can walk an Alpaca.
