The Old Bake House is a beautiful detached, stone-built property resting in the quaint village of Barrowden, ideal for a family looking to explore the wonderful countryside of Rutland. Be charmed by views across the local village and green spaces, lined with mature trees, as you make yourself at home in this lovely property, first discovering a characterful open-plan living space. Here, there is a sitting area with stylish sofas, contemporary furniture and the added ambiance of a woodburning stove. When mealtimes call, make your way into the delightful kitchen space, a contemporary room with many amenities to cater to your culinary needs, as well as a light and airy feel that will welcome guests to cook up a storm. Meals can be served at the dining table over a glass of your favourite beverage, kept cool in the wine cooler. Alternatively, take your meal outside and make the most of the sunshine in the enclosed rear garden, as your four-legged companions recline beside you. The shower room rests on the ground floor and is a refreshing space to enjoy a soak amongst the bubbles, or a warm shower beneath the rainfall shower head, decorated in contemporary hues. When sleep calls, head upstairs and settle into one of two well-presented bedrooms, each with storage and homely décor, choosing between a super-king-size with built-in wardrobes and a twin. The village of Barrowden is a picturesque location offering a selection of amenities, including a village shop and café, where guests can stock up on essentials before enjoying tea and cake. There is also the option of enjoying a drink in the sunshine at the Exeter Arms, picnics beside Barrowden Village Pond and walks beside the River Welland. There are many more attractions within the local area, including Fineshade Wood which is ideal for mountain biking, the historic Rockingham Castle and Burghley House, Rutland County Museum, and for nature lovers the Rutland Water Nature Reserve. Take a day to explore the town of Peterborough, a riverside town with walks through Ferry Meadows in Nene Park and a golf course. The town also has plenty of eateries, independent shops and Longthorpe Tower. All of this and so much more with a charming stay at The Old Bake House.

Barrowden is a conservation village situated on the River Welland in Rutland. The village has a convenience store with coffee shop and also a pub within a short walk. You are close to the Rutland Water reservoir, ideal for those keen on birdwatching, watersports, fishing, walking and cycling. A bike path runs around the reservoir and bike hire is available. For golfers, there are several local courses, including the Rutland Water golf club, which offers beautiful views over the reservoir. In the immediate area are numerous pretty villages offering top quality pub food in their local hostelries. Barrowden is close to the unspoilt market towns of Uppinhgam, Oakham, Stamford and Oundle. Slightly further afield are the thriving cities of Peterborough and Leicester, which offer a range of attractions and shopping and dining options. For garden enthiusiasts, the famous Barnsdale Gardens, set up by Geoff Hamilton of Gardeners World fame, are nearby. The famous Burghley House is within 15 minutes drive and other country houses nearby include Deene Park, Rockingham Castle, Elton Hall, Belvoir Castle and Kirby Hall.

    It contained everything we could possibly need, and thoughtfully equipped. Beds were extremely comfortable with lovely cotton linen. Welcome gifts were a lovely surprise, thank you. A delightful and wonderful stay in beautiful Barrowden. We were also made very welcome at the pub over the road ( Exeter Arms) Thank you for letting us use it.
