Catmint Cottage receives high praise for its cosy, homely atmosphere, spacious rooms, and peaceful location ideal for exploring the Peak District. Guests particularly enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and the beautiful meadow and stream opposite, which is perfect for dogs and outdoor relaxation. The welcome packs were much appreciated, though not guaranteed. Some minor issues were noted, such as occasional maintenance needs and cleanliness concerns, but these were outweighed by the many positive experiences. The cottage’s proximity to local pubs and attractions adds to its appeal, making it a popular choice for families and groups.
Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, with several reviews specifically mentioning cleanliness. However, a few guests noted issues such as dog hair, mucky floors, and stained mattress protectors, indicating occasional lapses. Overall, cleanliness is generally good but could benefit from more consistent attention.
The location is frequently highlighted as a major strength, with easy access to Matlock, Bakewell, Chatsworth, and local pubs. The peaceful setting, beautiful meadow, and proximity to walking routes are repeatedly praised, making it ideal for exploring the area.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with spacious rooms and comfy beds. A few minor comments about duvet size and road noise were made, but overall, comfort is a standout feature.
The cottage is well-equipped, with a stocked kitchen, board games, private parking, and a large garden. Some maintenance issues were mentioned, such as a leaking shower, dated bathrooms, and minor repairs needed, but these did not significantly detract from guests’ enjoyment.
Many guests appreciated the welcome packs, snacks, wine, and even dog treats, which added a special touch to their stay. It should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every booking.

The parish of Dethick, Lea and Holloway is steeped in history and Lea is also recorded in the Domesday Book as Lede; the famous Florence Nightingale spent much of her early life at Lea Hurst. The peaceful village of Lea offers visitors friendly pubs, tea rooms, restaurants and the famous John Smedley factory. Rural Derbyshire is a real treasure trove offering everything for the visitor including country houses, historic halls, medieval ruins, heritage railways, cycleways, beautiful unspoilt countryside and pretty villages. One of the closest attractions to Lea Hall is the Heights of Abraham. Built on the site of historic lead mining, the hilltop park is approached by cable car which rises up and offers some spectacular views of the Derwent Valley and surrounding Peak District. Visitors can tour the network of caverns and passageways left behind and explore the 60 acres of woodland hillside and buy souvenirs at the gift shop. Alternatively, for those who appreciate stately homes and gardens, magnificent Chatsworth House is highly recommended, as well as Haddon Hall and Lyme Park, all of which have been film or TV locations over the years.

We really enjoyed our stay at Catmint Cottage. It’s a lovely cottage, well equipped and tastefully decorated, with plenty of space for 5 adults. The weather was gorgeous so we spent a lot of time across the road in the meadow, and enjoyed playing with the outdoor games from the shed to the left of the house. The dog had a great time with lots of walks from the door. Thanks for the welcome goodies which were quickly devoured!! We would definitely visit again!
