As the evening grows darker, curl up on the plush sofa and select your favourite film on the 38” Smart TV, whilst the electric woodburning stove fills the room with a comforting warmth. Completing the property are two beautifully presented bedrooms, a super-king-size with en-suite bathroom, where you can indulge in a blissful soak in the gorgeous free-standing bath whilst enjoying your favourite show on the TV, which has the appearance of a mirror, and a twin with en-suite shower room, both of which have plenty of storage and dressing rooms so you can prepare for the day in style. For the keen anglers in your party, there is Lodge Pond just a short walk away where you can cast your rod and find your catch of the day. If fishing isn’t your thing, why not enjoy a leisurely stroll around the picturesque Stubbing Court? Ashover is nearby and offers several welcoming pubs, including the Peak District’s oldest pub, The Crispin Inn, and the inviting Old Poet’s Corner with its home-brewed ales, the perfect way to refuel whilst exploring. Just a short drive away is the bustling town of Chesterfield, here you will find the splendid Winding Wheel Theatre which frequently holds live performances, the historic Queens Park, a selection of excellent golf courses to suit every putter’s taste and a plethora of shops and eateries. Just a little further is Matlock, home to the Peak Rail where you can hop aboard a vintage steam train as it leads you through the stunning sights of the National Park, the picturesque Hall Leys Park and the superb Heights of Abraham where you ascend a hilltop park in an alpine-style cable car, followed by fascinating cavern tours, exhibitions and walking trails. Make your way over to Matlock Bath where you can peruse the Peak District Mining Museum and learn more about the local heritage or for a fun-filled family day out, Gulliver’s Kingdom is the place to be. The property was extremely well equipped, clean, warm and very comfortable. Everything was to a high standard and we would definitely recommend the property to others and stay again ourselves. The views were beautiful and it made for a very relaxing stay. We were lucky to have mild weather and the location was perfect for dog walking and visiting nearby places. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.

Lovely treats and a welcome bottle of milk and Prosecco in the fridge on arrival. Spotlessly clean, warm and cosy with a fantastic view onto open fields and horses. There is even dogs beds, dishes and towels for the dogs. Everything has been thought of. The lodge was perfect for us, my elderly mother and our two dogs, it has every facility needed for an easy stress free holiday. We were able to venture further afield this time and visited the Bird cafe at Hathersage, where the cafe has seats next to a window with a variety of birds and the odd squirrel feeding outside. A joy to see. Castleton and Winnats pass is always spectacular and the weather was kind to us. We would love to return for another lovely holiday.

With two superb en suite bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and sitting room, the lodge and its location is perfect for us and my partially sighted mother. Spotlessly clean, warm, comfortable, lovely decor, good quality crockery and utensils and a fantastic view . With countryside to explore on the doorstep and local pubs and Spar shop nearby, it is a very convenient gem. As a birthday treat, we went to Matlock Farm Park. The staff were wonderful and could not do enough for us as it was a special occasion and we had a wonderful, if wet, day. My Mother absolutely loved the Wallabies, Meerkats, guinea pigs and rabbits. On the first evening at Stables Lodge we had snow, which caused a short term access problem because of the short steep drive but was solved quickly by using the nearby stable's shovels, with permission from the lovely Claire. Thank you. We had such a lovely time we are looking forward to coming back in January, again with my 100 year old Mother and our two dogs, when we will have more time to explore the area.
