About this property

Situated on the rugged and beautiful isle of Portland, Bowman's is a character, terraced Dorset holiday cottage located on the wide avenue which is Wakeham. Internally, the owners have sympathetically updated the decor in a contemporary style, whilst maintaining the original and eye-catching features of the cottage, including exposed Portland stone walls and fireplaces (not in use). The sea around Weymouth and Portland hosted the 2012 Olympic sailing events - they attract many visitors and are perfect for water sports, including sailing, wind surfing and kite surfing. Other visitors love the bird watching, fishing, walking and climbing that is on the doorstep in Portland; walks can encompass the iconic 'Portland Bill' lighthouse and quarries.

Just a few minutes walk from the cottage, there is a beautiful area called 'Church Ope Cove'. Here you will find the pretty Portland museum and a walkway which leads to the secluded Cove. The walk way passes under an impressive stone arch and a little further along is Rufus Castle (a ruin) with panoramic views along the Jurassic Coast. A few minutes down steep steps (150) takes you to Church Ope Cove. The Mermaid (former) Inn, just seconds from the cottage serves great cream teas and fresh crab sandwiches (dependent on weather). Neighbouring Easton has good amenities, including two supermarkets, cafes, independent local shops and The New Inn pub which has received excellent customer feedback and reviews. A relatively short drive or bus journey away is the main resort of Weymouth, which has a long, beautiful, sandy beach, traditional entertainments and good shopping.

Accommodation: Entrance hall with quarry tiled flooring. Lounge with exposed stone chimney breast (not in use), dining room and separate kitchen. Steep and narrow, cottage style, stairs to first floor: bedroom 1, double bed. Bedroom 2, twin single beds. Bathroom, slightly smaller than average bath with shower over, hand basin and toilet. Please note there is restricted headroom (6'4'' minimum).  Garden with crazy paved patio area and summer house.

Services in addition: WiFi, phone for incoming calls, gas central heating, washing machine, fridge with small freezer, CD music system, flat screen TV with built in DVD. On road parking outside the cottage. Bed linen and towels inclusive.

Bowman's welcomes short breaks during most of the year.

We were delighted with Bowman's Cottage. It exceeded our expectations. The actual accommodation is much better than the photo's imply. The decor was charming; the cottage was very clean and tidy and the equipment and facilities provided were entirely adequate. It really felt to us like 'home from home' We were particularly impressed by the comfy beds and bedlinen; the excellent shower - the water pressure is so good it was like a power shower. One word of warning though - the height in the shower is limited so a tall person may struggle. Likewise, the bath is limited in length so a tall person may struggle. Outside is the garden room with table and chairs - delightful on a warm evening. Parking outside the cottage was never a problem. The location was perfect as it was not too near to the busier areas of the island but at the quieter end. Nevertheless, the shops were close enough to walk to for supplies. We used the bus several times and the service is very frequent and takes you in to the heart of Weymouth. We couldn't fault a single thing. Stayed June 2018

An absolute warm and comforting trip as my daughter lives around the corner. She has just had a baby so now no room at hers which leaves us to stay in hotels but as there are more than 2 of us this worked out cheaper which benefited us. We are coming back and I will book today for February. We have also decided that our retirement home will be on Portland :-) Thank you - stayed December 2017

Lovely, well equipped, comfortable cottage. Great location for exploring Portland with Church Ope Cove and Easton within a few minutes walk away. Property was spotlessly clean. I wouldn't hesitate to book this property again for future holidays and it would definitely be my future first choice. Thank you. – Stayed October 2017.
