Snaptrip says

Sandsgate is a highly praised holiday cottage in Devon, consistently lauded for its stunning views, spacious and well-equipped interiors, and beautiful grounds. Guests appreciate the property's suitability for large family gatherings, with ample entertainment for children and adults alike. The location within Dartmoor National Park adds to its charm, offering a sense of seclusion and opportunities for exploration.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently describe the property as spotlessly clean, with fresh flowers in reception rooms and bedrooms, indicating meticulous attention to cleanliness.

The property's location is highly praised for its exceptional views and sense of isolation, though some guests note the narrow access roads. Its proximity to Dartmoor National Park and local attractions is a significant plus.

Reviewers find the beds comfortable and the house spacious, with various cosy areas to relax. However, a few guests suggest improvements such as king-sized beds and handrails for stairs.

The property boasts a well-equipped kitchen, games room, and ample outdoor space. Some guests mention minor issues with stair-gates and suggest the addition of a gazebo for outdoor seating.

While guests are delighted with the toy box and fresh flowers, there is no mention of gifts, so it is not possible to assess the level of thoughtfulness in terms of gifts provided.

About this property

In a splendid location down a driveway on a hillside three miles from the Dartmoor town of Chagford is this wonderful detached house. With a terrace stretching the entire width of the house for views across the Teign Valley to Castle Drogo, this is a splendid house for big families or groups of friends to enjoy. The big sitting room has French windows to that terrace, as well as comfy sofas and an open fire. You will enjoy spending time in the kitchen, which is another magnificent room where you can dine around the huge table, chill out in the seating area over the Dartmoor views, watch TV, or rustle up a meal whilst the children play with the toys provided. A study also opens to those time wasting vistas. Take the stairs up to a games room on the first floor, where you can enjoy a game of pool or table football or watch TV. All the bedrooms are smart, with those views and TV, but the pièce de résistance is the big master bedroom, complete with its own sunroom which leads you through to a balcony where you can gaze over Castle Drogo with an evening drink. There are three other bedrooms, plus a shower room and beautiful bathroom on this floor, then follow more stairs up two large bedrooms under the eaves, sharing a bathroom. Outside there are 18 vast acres of lovely peaceful natural grounds, with lawns, ancient woodland and even a prehistoric stone circle, so there’s plenty of room for your four legged friend to roam! Dartmoor’s vast open spaces are within easy reach and waiting exploration, whether you’re an avid rambler or you are simply seeking to explore the beauty of this fantastic area of Devon, there’s lots of activity to be found. Castle Drogo rests high above the Teign Valley is a National Trust gem and well worth a visit, or spend some time in the local town of Chagford, though small in size there are a variety of things to do, with shops, pubs and an open air swimming pool. Whisk away to the beautiful cathedral city of Exeter, home to a vibrant range of landmarks and attractions. Nestled in a beautiful region with easy access to the Dartmoor National Park, choose Sandgate as your next abode in Devon. Please note: This property can be booked with Sandsgate Lodge Ref: 1101508, together sleeping up to 16 guests.

We were all very happy there and made some amazing family memories. We all felt very at home. There are lots of lovely places to sit, inside and out. The bedrooms are all fabulous and spacious with great views. Sitting room, kitchen, dining area, patio are wonderful too as well as the games room and sun room. We’ll be back for sure!

We were a family of 8 adults and five children aged from15 months to 6 years. Huge selection of games and toys was most welcome and helpful. The stair-gates were a little wobbly and a helpful addition would be some kind of barrier or gate at the bottom of the main stairs. The choice and number of kitchen utensils and cookware was amazing but perhaps more space could be made available for groceries. We all loved our stay at Sandsgate and the house really made our holiday a truly wonderful experience enjoyed by all of us, especially the children. Thank you for providing such excellent accommodation, gardens and views. We cannot recommend Sandsgate highly enough as a destination for a family holiday and/or reunion.
