Look out for Northam Burrows Country Park to one end of the beach, as it’s a beautiful spot for a walk if you fancy venturing from the sand for an hour or two.

...Clovelly - a good lovely walk - quite strenuous though at times especially between Westward Ho and Bucks Mill. Appledore - a nice easy walk from Westward Ho along the coast path - be mindful of the ferry crossing times if you want to go across to Instow by ferry. These places all very quick to reach by car. Make sure you have an ice cream from the local ice cream makers how have their vans at Westward Ho, Appledore, Bideford.... The best ice cream I have tasted. Submitted by Deborah on 01/10/2017

...There are two lifeguard stations on the beach, one near the town, (with facilities, shops etc but with no beach at high tide but you can sit on the rocks). The second one is away from town but a bit closer to the apartment. No toilet facilities here but there an ice cream van usually and also sand at high tide meaning you can pitch for the whole day. Access over the rocks by a foot way provided. Do not park in town. If you have a lot of stuff, park at the country park car park which runs behind the length of the beach. Otherwise walk.
