About this property

… in Lower Cator, snugly tucked around a part-cobbled courtyard with wonderful walks in all directions from the door, a Devon longhouse (A169) and an ancient hayloft imaginatively converted into a brilliant get-away for two (A177), all with origins in the 15th cent.. They once formed part of a family farm and farming is continued by neighbours. Spring water. A brilliant spot for true country-lovers and walkers.

The smaller cottage (A177) has its own garden (table/chairs) across the courtyard. Inside, a high ceiling with exposed beams and floor-to-ceiling window give plenty of light. From the courtyard, 9 steps up to front door to open-plan living/dining/kitchen (washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer) with TV/DVD and woodburner; at this level, bathroom (suite plus hand-shower). Wooden stairs up to open gallery double bedroom (5' bed) with limited headroom and clothes-hanging space and a dear little Hobbit-style window. No children. Not suitable for people with limited mobility.

""We & our two elderly dogs had a great time! The property was lovely, and in a beautiful setting, just a short walk to the high moor. We loved the fact that the bedroom, although upstairs, was still part of the main room so the dogs weren't fretting as they could still hear us ( & we them!) We would definitely stay there again.""

"",Super location just a step and onto the moors.Cottage was cosy, well equipped and welcoming.A perfect retreat for two or an escape from the Hurly Burly of everyday routine.Walking through the stone cobbled yard reminded me of a scene from Far from the Madding Crowd.Loved it and hope to return""

""S33978 (A177)is in a lovely quiet location. Fantastic views of the stars on clear nights, no intrusive light. Great location for a few walks, either across moors if the weather's good, or down very quiet lanes if not. Only used the car 1 day in the week.""

""Very helpful throughout the process, thank you!""

""Be warned, if you're over 5' tall, the beam next to the bed and your head will be regular acquaintances. Very hard to find, not sign posted very well. I struggled to find it in the dark, and I know the area between Postbridge and Widecombe reasonably well.""

""The cottage was lovely and in a very tranquil location. Just a word to the wise that the nearest shops selling milk, bread and other essentials is approx 6 miles away at Postbridge, so stocking up beforehand is a must. Also no wifi or mobile phone coverage, but that did not spoil a fantastic holiday.""

""S33978 is set in a small hamlet, very peaceful and relaxing. Ability to walk from the property on to the moors. Nice to not have WI-FI. Facilities comfortable but basic.""

""it would be helpful if the property had a sign on the roadside the existing one is behind a hedge and it took us ages to find it as the directions are written from appraching the property from the other direction. also it only has a name of the farm and not of the property we was looking for. however this is not a critism the prsoiperty and the owners were lovley and we found it eventually""

""This cottage offers the best for walking on Dartmoor from the door. Once you have got there put your car keys away and enjoy the moors and Tors. Its a beautiful spot. Should you find the need to rest your legs there are places within a few miles to explore with the car. And the owners are always keen to help and advise you on the best places around to walk or visit. We cant wait to be able to go back. We had the best week that we could have had.""
