About this property

… in Lower Cator, snugly tucked around a part-cobbled courtyard with wonderful walks in all directions from the door, a Devon longhouse (A169) and an ancient hayloft imaginatively converted into a brilliant get-away for two (A177), all with origins in the 15th cent.. They once formed part of a family farm and farming is continued by neighbours. Spring water. A brilliant spot for true country-lovers and walkers.

The smaller cottage (A177) has its own garden (table/chairs) across the courtyard. Inside, a high ceiling with exposed beams and floor-to-ceiling window give plenty of light. From the courtyard, 9 steps up to front door to open-plan living/dining/kitchen (washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer) with TV/DVD and woodburner; at this level, bathroom (suite plus hand-shower). Wooden stairs up to open gallery double bedroom (5' bed) with limited headroom and clothes-hanging space and a dear little Hobbit-style window. No children. Not suitable for people with limited mobility.

"We & our two elderly dogs had a great time! The property was lovely, and in a beautiful setting, just a short walk to the high moor. We loved the fact that the bedroom, although upstairs, was still part of the main room so the dogs weren't fretting as they could still hear us ( & we them!) We would definitely stay there again."

",Super location just a step and onto the moors.Cottage was cosy, well equipped and welcoming.A perfect retreat for two or an escape from the Hurly Burly of everyday routine.Walking through the stone cobbled yard reminded me of a scene from Far from the Madding Crowd.Loved it and hope to return"

"Swallows Nest (A177)is in a lovely quiet location. Fantastic views of the stars on clear nights, no intrusive light. Great location for a few walks, either across moors if the weather's good, or down very quiet lanes if not. Only used the car 1 day in the week."
