About this property

A beautifully bright apartment surrounded by glorious Devonshire countryside

Perfectly named, The Retreat is a beautiful two bedroom apartment set within the walled grounds of Marldon House. Spacious and stylish, this annexed apartment is nestled on the edge of one of Devon's most attractive villages, and is the perfect setting for those who want to be close to the coast and all the attractions of Torbay, but love to return to the peace and tranquillity of the countryside after a day exploring.

Inside, the apartment is filled with quality interiors and furnishings giving this space a true sense of style. The open plan living, kitchen and dining area opens out onto a private terrace area, a lovely spot to enjoy an afternoon bite in the sun or a glass of wine.

Relaxing on the private terrace, looking over the gardens towards the ancient church and multi award winning gastro pub, it’s difficult to imagine that there are beaches only a ten minute drive away, and Dartmoor lies just 10 miles north, along Moor Lane. The apartment is set against a backdrop of mature native trees and has a private entrance, parking and a large swath of lawned garden.

Just a pleasant five minute stroll away, the Church House Inn is no ordinary village pub! It was the first in Devon to be included in the Michelin Good Pub Guide and boasts numerous recent accolades, including Devon's best dining pub of the year 2013! The setting is idyllic, nestled as it is next to the ancient church and overlooking the village cricket green.
The access to the property may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

We've just returned from our three night stay at the retreat and had the most wonderful time. The living room/kitchen and bedrooms were all beautifully decorated and there were picturesque views of the local village and wider countryside from the house grounds. As we were holidaying with our baby girl we spent the evenings at the retreat. We felt very at home there and the beds were extremely comfy. Had the weather been a little better we would have liked to enjoy the courtyard situated outside the living area. During our stay we visited Torquay, Totnes, Dartington, Dartmouth, Paignton and Brixham so the retreat at Marldon was a really good base for all these locations. I didn't want our little break to end, thank you so much!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Retreat in Marldon. The accommodation was absolutely excellent and the owners were very friendly. It was very peaceful and relaxing. We would definitely want to stay at such a lovely place again.

The Retreat was immaculately presented and we received a warm welcome from the owners Douglas and Fiona. The quality of furnishings was excellent, and the property was very spacious. It is in a good position for visiting attractions within the area, but you do need a car. The only faults we could find were that there was nowhere to hang coats and store shoes other than in the wardrobes in the bedrooms, and although there was more than enough drawer and wardrobe space, I would have liked more coat hangers as I prefer to hang most of my clothes. We would definitely recommend this property to others and will definitely consider returning to the property in the future.
