About this property

... 20 yards from Bigbury-on-Sea's big and splendid sandy beach, and looking at Burgh Island over the low-tide sandy causeway, is this truly excellent and very greatly appreciated development of 29 high quality apartments of which we let 12, and, within the building, a very good private Leisure Club. The views over the sea to the south and west, and at low tide of a huge expanse of smooth washed yellow sand reaching to Burgh Island, are outstanding. The island's jolly pub, The Pilchard, is fun to visit (long-legged sea tractor at high tide).

All the apartments have those sensational views, are double-glazed, marvellously light, with large living/dining/fitted kitchens, glazed doors to balconies or terraces. They are privately owned and individually furnished. Smallish bedrooms at the back (no views) with good quality en suite, internal, tiled, bath or shower-rooms. Most have easy access (short walk from the car and between 5 and 9 steps down to the lift). Parking for one car at the back of each property and some extra space for guests. Arrival after 4pm.

The Leisure Club, open from 10am every day (closed Christmas Day; open from 11am to 3pm on Boxing Day and from 12pm to 4pm on New Year’s Day), has a fine indoor kidney-shaped swimming pool (40’ x 20’ x 4’6"), spa pool, extensive, well-equipped gym (treadmill, steps, cycles, Concept II Rower, and other instruments of torture) and sauna (no children under 14 in gym or sauna). The smart bar provides coffee/drinks through the day and light meals, cream teas and a children’s menu (variable opening hours), served either in the Club or for you to take to your apartment. Comfy lounging area (sofas, WiFi Broadband) and outside terrace facing the sea. There are changing rooms, a shower and disabled loo.

Prices include everything - linen, towels, heating, electricity and use of the Leisure Club facilities from 10am.The building is three-storey. The ground floor (but still high above the beach) apartments have big terraces, the first floor apartments have very good-sized balconies, the top ones have smaller balconies (room for four people to sit comfortably though).

No 27. Top floor: stunning sea views south and west. Stylish, clean, white, minimalist decor, punctuated with brightly coloured prints and paintings; laminated flooring throughout. Spacious living/dining/fitted kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, white Corian worktops) with TV/DVD, iPod dock, sliding glazed doors to balcony (furniture). Two bedrooms, both with fabulous sea views – double (6’ sleigh bed) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath), and twin (sleigh beds) with en suite shower-room (suite).

"This was one of the most relaxing holidays we have had. The position and facilities at the apartment and the leisure club were excellent. The communal areas of the apartments were always clean and tidy. The staff in the leisure club were always friendly and helpful."

"We had a very enjoyable week at 27 Burgh Island Causeway. The location was amazing and the dual aspect of this apartment ensured that the sun shone on the patio throughout most of the day. The Leisure Centre staff were extremely friendly and helpful and good food was available throughout the day. The location is a bit remote. This is ideal for those who want a quiet relaxing holiday but not perhaps for anyone wanting a base for travelling to other parts of the region."
