"The actual castle was amazing and having the space in the grounds was wonderful for the younger people in our party. We were not happy with the fact that the shower on the ground floor did not work - it did on ONE day but this was a known problem and we were not notified of it. This was difficult for myself, having limited mobility, as the baths were too high for me to negotiate (not easy for able-bodied people either!) and with the shower out of action.... I did once negotiate the stairs to the upper floors, but VERY difficult. I just think this should be pointed out in the details. We were informed there would be toiletries - so I informed the other members of our party but all there was were hand wash bottles. There seemed to be a problem with the oven temperature as well. A 6oclock meal ended up at 8 Having griped at these, we enjoyed being there. I have already contacted staff at rural retreats and sent an e mail as they requested."

"Tawstock Castle is a wonderful place to stay with family and/or friends. It is the second time we have been and it didn't disappoint. The views are magnificent, the castle well-equipped and the rooms comfortable."

"We have stayed at Tawstock Castle five or six times now so clearly we love it, the location and the uniqueness of the property. However, there are several things that really let down the property and I don’t know why they aren’t addressed. The toilet seat in one of the main bedrooms en-suite is not fit for purpose - it doesn’t fit the toilet and is practically unusable. This was the same two years ago when we stayed there! It’s ridiculous not to have this fixed! Also a few things in the kitchen should be upgraded. Every cutting knife is dull and unusable. The scissors don’t work. When you stay in a property for an entire week not being able to prepare meals is extremely frustrating. A slightly bigger issue is that the shower room by the kitchen is really needing a proper refurbishment, it’s barely fit for purpose. We ended up letting our friends use our bathroom and shower in the master suite instead. The last thing I would point out, which is absolutely disgusting and boggles the mind: what the heck happened to the handles of the hair dryers in the bedrooms downstairs??? They are covered in a sticky goo which means you can’t hold them. Completely unusable. Things like this really let the property down. It’s a beautiful place but the owners need to put their hands in their pockets and sort out a few things. God knows they charge enough."

Could have done with a few more supplies, e.g There was only one bin bag, no washing up brush or sponge, no fresh coffee, tiny one person cafetiere which was awkward for 8 adults... But overall really enjoyed our stay. Property very clean and who wouldn't love to stay in a castle!"

"It's a beautiful, unique property and we've stayed there 3 times so clearly love it. However it could do with some internal updating. Every time we stay (over the past 4 years) we think it might have had a little money invested in it. But all the towels and bedding are exactly the same (and some have minor staining), the shower doesn't work on the ground floor and it is in desperate need of a bit of paint and new carpeting. It is certainly not a cheap holiday and it is sad none of the profit has been reinvested in maintaining such a stunning and charming property. Having said all that we love the place. Housekeeping on arrival is always of a good standard."

"Generally good. Not all bed sheets clean - lots of hairs on the undersheet in the master bedroom. Not enough bin bags, no tea towels and only one washing up cloth. Living room lovely and everything in good condition."
