About this property

A newly refurbished, 4* gold-rated 2 bedroom cottage, sleeps 4. Perched above Lee Bay with direct access to the South West Coast Path

Black Pit Cottage is a beautifully refurbished old stone building in a spectacular position perched just above the beach at Lee Bay with direct views over the beach and out to sea, and adjacent to National Trust land.

Internally, the property is finished to a high standard with underfloor heating throughout. The modern open plan living area also has a wood burner for cosy evenings in. The property has two double bedrooms both with en suites and sea views.

Externally, guests can enjoy two spacious patios, with a built-in barbeque and patio furniture, perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying a glass of wine whilst watching the waves. The cottage also has an outside shower which is ideal for use after a day at the beach.

The peaceful village of Lee Bay is a ten minute drive (less than four miles) from the popular beaches at Woolacombe and Croyde, and is surrounded by dramatic coastline on the edge of Exmoor. When the tide is out, Lee Bay beach is a golden sandy beach ideal for children, offering swimming, canoeing and rock pooling. Next door is the picturesque NGS garden at Cliffe, open from April to September, boasting a diverse range of habitats and stunning coastal views.

Nearby there are Blue Flag beaches and surfing at Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe. Woolacombe also has plenty of options for evening entertainment, especially in the summer months. Ilfracombe’s bustling high street and harbour are ten minutes away and the South West Coastal Path passes directly alongside the cottage with access to National Trust cliff top walks about 200 yards away.

This property especially welcomes families. It includes a cot (not including linen) and a highchair plus a stair gate, blackout blinds, toys, a selection of board games and plastic crockery for children.

Blue chip website is one of the better ones. There are lots of large interior and exterior photos, and it is easy to find all the required info on facilities.

We recently stayed at Black Pit Cottage which is located in Lee Bay. It is not the most bustling of places if that's what you prefer but it is set in the most beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed going out to the busier towns of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe which are only a short drive away but it was great knowing we were based somewhere away from all the main holiday crowds and could come home after a day out to this gorgeous oasis. The cottage itself is nestled up a hill with the most fantastic views of Lee Bay and is a short walk away from the bay itself. Very easy to pack stuff for the beach and walk down from the cottage. Waking up every morning to the sound of the waves and that beautiful view was one of the best parts of our holiday. So relaxing. Our children also enjoyed the beach and the many rock pools and secret coves we explored when the tide was out. The cottage was fantastic - a real home from home and was very comfortable. We couldn't fault it, we were lucky with the weather and the week went by all too quickly. Would love to return again and would definitely recommend Black Pit Cottage to anyone considering staying there.

We stayed at this property for a week recently, the location is perfect. Had not realised just how close to Lee Bay we would be. Just a few minutes walk from the cottage is the lovely bay which the children had great fun in. The cottage itself has been very tastefully refurbished, was spotlessly clean on arrival and had everything we required. I would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here and we hope to go back again ourselves.
