About this property

Monks Bridge dates back to the 1700's. The two bedroom property oozes charm and character and there is a delightful secluded garden which overlooks the stream. Ideal for those looking for a Cumbrian cottage in an area of peace and tranquility.

Monks Bridge was built in the 1700s as the village school. It is a house of unusual charm and character, beautifully situated on the edge of a traditional village in the Lyvennet Valley amongst gently rising fells, drystone walls and fine farms. The cottage (named after the ancient bridge over the Lyvennet) retains the original lofty ceilings and arched windows affording views over the beck, the ancient churchyard and the mature and secluded garden.

Crosby Ravensworth is located only 15 minutes from the M6 and eight miles from Appleby. There are delightful walks from the door and by car, the Eden Valley, the Lakeland fells and the Pennines are within easy reach.

Our last-minute booking of Monk's Bridge in Crosby Ravensworth turned out to be our best ever holiday rental. It is a truly special house, steeped in history and with seemingly every need catered for: a really well-equipped kitchen, very comfortable sitting areas & beds, plenty of logs & kindling for the fire and even candles & matches on the dining table. With such a lovely base (and plenty of reading material provided) we were tempted to stay put, but the immediate area is a delight & this property is so well-placed for exploring the northern & eastern Lake District. The local (community) pub The Butcher's arms, just a few minutes walk away, serves very good, plentiful food & offers a warm welcome. We loved eating breakfast in the sun room each morning, looking out directly on the beck and watching ducks & wagtails go by. A real fire each evening was pretty wonderful too. We would recommend this cottage to anyone who appreciates established gardens, interesting old houses/antiques and good old-fashioned peace and quiet on their holidays. We loved it.

Monks Bridge was a last minute booking and it was everything you could want, comfortable bed, open fire and just a feeling of welcome in the place. The area was not somewhere we had been before but will certainly go again, plenty of walks from the doorstep and the Lake District not too far away.No Sky tv,no internet, which to be honest I thought we would miss nut it was good to be away from it,even listened to a football match on the radio! I would love to spend Christmas or New Year in this homely house.A local Ordinance survey map would be good.

Lovely cottage. Good separate bedroom areas. Coal fire for cold nights. Only probs - Condensation one bedroom and poor shower in other bathroom but overall nice for a very chilled break. Ground level suited disabled friend.
