About this property

Ravenstonedale 4.5 miles. A lovely 350-year-old, stone-built, semi-detached farmhouse, beautifully situated on a hillside overlooking the Rawthey Valley and Wild Boar Fell.

An ideal romantic retreat, this traditional farmhouse has been lovingly modernised to provide creature comforts yet retains many original features such as oak beams, exposed stonework and oak panelled cupboards. The warm and cosy sitting room has a magnificent traditional range open fire and is a perfect place to relax after a day exploring the area. A separate dining room which includes a piano features a fabulous stone arched inglenook. A well-equipped kitchen with both Aga and electric cookers contains a small dining area.

A real home-from-home, this cottage provides a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a relaxing holiday in a picturesque area.

The enclosed rear garden offers beautiful views of the Rawthey Valley with a table to dine outdoors and a stone barbecue. A small stream flows through the garden to add further to the charm and attraction of this lovely holiday retreat.

Enjoy an unpolluted night sky full of stars on clear nights.

A wealth of wildlife is commonly seen from red squirrel to abundant birdlife and bats. It is not uncommon to see a buzzard soaring overhead or a pheasant pecking around outside looking for food. More rarely the magnificent heron can be seen wading in the nearby beck. Early risers may be rewarded with the sighting of a deer.

Sit outdoors and hear the sound of the curlew flying overhead whilst in the evening listen to tawney owls talking to each other.

This cottage is a walker’s delight with access to a hundred square miles of open fell, nearby footpaths will lead you to stunning, hidden waterfalls and tiny becks, while across the valley is an amazing limestone pavement to discover.

Fabulous walks in the Howgills or Wild Boar Fell and others can be made from the door.

If it rains then the Aga is always comfortingly there on your return to dry things out.

Situated within the newly extended Yorkshire Dales National Park, this is a superb base from which to explore the area. The Lake District is about 20 miles away.

Note: This cottage can be booked with Ref 11602, together they sleep 9.

A small and compact village, Ravenstonedale has much to offer the visitor seeking a quieter experience than the nearby Lake District National Park provides. It is a pretty village; traditional whitewashed stone cottages and stone walls border the fields, whilst theRaven brook trickles by. St Oswald's church is largely from the Georgian era, comprising a solid structure with a simple square tower. In addition, there are elements from older buildings incorporated in it, and the base of a Saxon cross just outside. To the north of the church, excavations in 1920 revealed the foundations of a 13th Century Gilbertine Abbey. Ravenstonedale is a fantastic base for exploring the Lakes to the west or the Yorkshire Dales, just a short drive to the east. Those who prefer to stay closer to home can explore the Howgill Fells, the rounded hills which signal the start of the Lakeland ranges.
