About this property

Ravenstonedale 3 miles. An outstanding, stone-built, semi-detached barn conversion, beautifully situated in the Rawthey Valley, between Harter and Wild Boar Fell, and just three miles from the village of Ravenstonedale. This cottage provides an ideal base for those wishing to get away from it all and enjoy the famous Howgill Fells, loved by Wainwright and illustrated in his celebrated books. Lovingly renovated, this cottage offers first-class self-catering accommodation, full of modern features yet retaining the character and charm of a bygone age. The open plan living area is spacious and well laid out, with a warm and cosy sitting area with a woodburner, a modern kitchen, a dining area and a beautiful beamed ceiling. The first floor of your Cumbria cottage is reached by a handmade oak staircase, which leads onto a galleried sitting area from where you will find two good-sized bedrooms and a spacious shower room. The accommodation seamlessly combines with the exposed stonework and lovely old beams to provide the ideal holiday home to enjoy this wild and rugged corner of Cumbria. Your cottage offers a garden and patio area, but this whole location is ideal for enjoying the great outdoors; try a strenuous walk up breathtaking Wild Boar Fell, or a gentler meander along a valley bottom where your only companions are likely to be free-roaming fell ponies, sheep and pheasants. Whichever you choose, the scenery is delightful with buzzards and the call of the curlew the only sounds to be heard. If you're lucky you may spot one of the area's wild deer or red squirrels. With access to a hundred square miles of open fell, nearby footpaths will lead you to stunning, hidden waterfalls and tiny becks, while across the fell is an amazing limestone pavement, known locally as Fell End Clouds. With the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks within easy reach, this cottage is a superb base from which to explore the area.

Ravenstonedale is a village close to the Howgill Fells, located between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, described by Wainwright as one of Westmorland's loveliest villages. Enjoy wonderful walking and cycling or a trip on the Settle to Carlisle Railway line.
