The village of Wetheral is built above the banks of the River Eden around a picturesque village green. There are several amenities including a 4* hotel, leisure club, restaurant, church, village shop and Post Office, bowling green and cricket field. With its beautiful views over the Eden Valley, riverside walks and the Lake District, Scottish Borders and Hadrian's Wall, all within a half hour drive, Wetheral is an excellent holiday location. A short steep walk takes you past the church and remains of the abbey to the River Eden. To the east the 19th century viaduct towers above the river with some of the best salmon fishing in the country, further along the river you can view a magnificent waterfall cascading down from Corby Castle, woodland walks leads to the remains of the caves used by the monks in the 14th century.
Geltsdale was built as a private house for the Mayor of Carlisle in 1904 in the village of Wetheral, which is recognised as an unspoilt beauty spot. Geltsdale is in a tranquil setting surrounded by several acres of garden and woodland and enjoys views over the grounds and River Eden to the Castle Carrock Fells.

Geltsdale Eastwing is a beautiful home from home. Beautifully presented and very spacious accommodation with everything you would need to feel at home. Wetheral is a small, quiet village with some lovely walks by the river leading to the Manmade Celestine Caves and nearby Old Gatehouse. We visited a couple of pubs in the village - The Wheatsheaf which serves great good and the pub at the Crown hotel. Would also recommend the Fantail restaurant which is worth a visit. Geltsdale Eastwing is a great base for your holiday and is just half hour drive to the Lakes or to Hadrian's Wall. I went with my partner and two boys aged 14 and 17 and we had a great holiday. The boys especially liked using the swimming pool at the nearby Crown Hotel which is flexible on the times you go there. We would recommend this accommodation to anyone, what a fantastic find!

Chilled out in Cumbria
What better experience could you get?! We had a great stay. Everything was good, a large apartment in a beautiful house. The leisure facilities at the crown is a fantastic enhancement. We went for a swim and a steam every day!! Great location too - in the countryside but only a few miles from Carlisle (not a great place to go at night but all the facilities you need from a town). Made it to the lakes for a couple of days which was great - so everything you need on your doorstep! Come and stay here - you wontt regret it!!
