The picturesque village of Delph has barely changed from its 19th century hey-day, when it’s small mills were at the heart of a thriving community, and today remains an ideal start for walks up the Castleshaw Valley to the Roman Fort, one of a series built on the Roman military road from Chester to York. Delph boasts several village festivals including a charity beer walk and brass band contest! Nearby, the largest of the Saddleworth villages, Uppermill is situated in the valley below Saddleworth Church and is dominated by an impressive viaduct.
