About this property

Perfectly located, just a 10-minute walk from the award-winning Blue Flag beach at Carbis Bay and just 1 mile from the infamous seaside town of St Ives, this ground floor, two bedroom apartment offers modern, well equipped accommodation, ideal for a family or couples. From the hallway, enter the open plan living room, with both sitting and dining areas and a contemporary kitchen which includes a dishwasher and washing machine. The apartment has a king size and a twin bedroom, as well as a good sized bathroom, giving you the opportunity of a long soak or a invigorating shower at the end of a day on the beach. Carbis Bay beach is about a mile long, take in the glorious views as far as Godrevy lighthouse. The beach is ideal for relaxing, bathing and families with young children. This is just one of an array of beaches that make up St Ives Bay, officially listed as one of the worlds most beautiful. The town itself offers a choice of cafes, top-class restaurants, famous pubs and good takeaways, while the centre of St Ives has galleries, shops, bars and a pretty, busy harbour with boat trips to Seal Island. In a wonderful location, you have the opportunity to park your car outside and leave it there for the duration of your holiday, as the beach is a short walk away and the delightful coastal train, one of the most scenic in the country, runs close by from Carbis Bay railway station, connecting you to the rest of Cornwall. An ideal location for a seaside holiday, all year round.

One of Cornwall's prettiest harbour towns, St Ives offers narrow streets, tight-packed cottages nestling around the quayside, the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth museum, fabulous beaches, superb shops, a thriving community of artists, great pubs and restaurants and much more. With its semi Bohemian lifestyle and romantic air, it's easy to see why this is the county's premier holiday resort. A superb destination!

The kitchen had everything that was needed and the bed was comfy. The general cleanliness was fine, I see there have been issues with mould. It has clearly been at least tried to be dealt with but could do with some extra anti-mould spray and a lick of paint in a few places. Again, can’t fault facilities and value. We had a lovely stay.

There was an issue with security and people entering the building without a key by putting their hand through the outside window and on occasion were knocking on the flat window to be let in. The beds in the second bedroom were poor. The mattresses very uneven. Not divan beds The outside seating area was full of weeds and not a pleasant area to be outside to eat. There were also some cleanliness issues in the bathroom. The owners said they would be happy to offer some compensation - still waiting!

However it is one of 6 flats in a purpose built property. The other flats are occupied by staff from a local business and we believe the owner of that business owns the 5 flats. We had to cut our holiday short after 3 nights and leave because we could no longer tolerate the noise from the other flats and there was/is a security issue with the main entrance into the building. We did not feel safe. We contacted the owners of the holiday let upon leaving to let them know that their property was now unattended. We explained why. The owners were responsive and understanding. It then got referred to Sykes Cottages. After some time and some unsubstantiated comments on their part it was clear they had no intention of resolving our issue. We were not looking for a major refund and a gesture of some recompense would have satisfied. We will not book another holiday with Sykes and in my opinion they would do well to reconsider what constitutes Customer Care. Incidentally we had stayed locally via a different holiday booking company for 3 nights prior to transferring to Chy An Mor. In contrast that part of our holiday was lovely and as expected.
