... one mile seaward of Rosudgeon is Acton Castle, commanding the peninsula between Stackhouse Cove (200 yards walk away, low-tide sand) and Prussia Cove, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. While on St Michael’s Mount in 1772, the romantic but rheumatic seaweed expert, John Stackhouse, spotted the site for his wedding present to his betrothed, Susanna Acton. Built of granite, Grade II listed, it has formal shared gardens and lawns, slate terraces, sunken garden with pond (unfenced) and sensational sea views, including of St Michael’s Mount. Rough private drive to it. Farmland all round. Coast Path. The castle is now divided into apartments. We let three.
... named after the wife of Acton Castle's eccentric creator, Susanna's Apartment is on the first floor (arrow 4). It is approached by external slate steps at the back. Slate-floored hall to very large, light, airy living/dining/fitted kitchen (TV/DVD) with mullioned windows, window seat and cushions to enjoy stunning views along the coast to St Michael's Mount. Well-equipped kitchen area (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer, larder fridge). Two steps down to two bedrooms – a double, and a twin (2'6" beds). Pretty bathroom (suite plus hand-shower) and loo. Unbeatable views and beautiful sunsets.

"the only place in the UK with sunshine although with a cold wind. I even managed to accidentally get my face sunburnt in Tresco Abbey Gardens on a Scillies day trip. The view from Susanna's apartment is spectacular making it hard to leave and visit attractions elsewhere."

"This is a great place to stay, very convenient location as supermarkets and tourist attractions are close by. Very spacious living/dining/kitchen area and always warm although single glazing. The drive towards the castle is a bit awkward"
