If you want peace and quiet in a rural setting then Deer Lodge ticks the boxes, St Ives is only a 10-15 min drive away and has all the shop you could need. The lodge itself is modern but some of the furniture could be replaced as showing signs of wear, for a fisherman its perfect as you have your own swim to use and a bait/tackle shop on site along with a cafe.I think these lodges are aimed at fisherman more than families, we are an adult family of 4 and stayed over Christmas and found the lodge slightly on the small side. Contact with the owner was by text and the two issues we had during our stay were not really resolved as we thought should have been which was disappointing as they live onsite. The lodge was described as dressed for Christmas but 1 string of lights and an 18 inch high potted tree might be disappointing if you have a young family but maybe the size of the lodge does not cater for more. I think if you visit at a different time of year and you are into fishing then this is a perfect place to stay, would I recommend for families over the Christmas holidays maybe not but this is my own view and feedback. Overall we had a nice 4 days away together but we would probably not visit again. Please note this review is based on our own experience and what we wanted/expected for the cost and an honest opinion on our case. As I have already said it’s a fisherman’s paradise and seems very popular and set in beautiful countryside.
