About this property

Littleport 6.8 miles. Laurel is a fine shepherd’s hut resting in the fenland village of Welney, Norfolk, offering a simple retreat for couples seeking a countryside escape with thoughtful essentials close at hand. Set within the owner’s garden, the hut enjoys a tucked-away feel while remaining connected to village life, including a pub just a short stroll away. Step inside and the studio-style layout unfolds in a single, well-arranged space designed for easy days and relaxed evenings. The double bed sits alongside a small dining area, ideal for unhurried breakfasts before heading out to explore the surrounding landscape. The kitchenette is neatly set up for light self-catering, with a combi microwave/oven, fridge, and kettle providing everything needed for simple meals and hot drinks throughout the day.

As evening draws in, the sitting area offers a welcoming spot to unwind. A smart shower room with walk-in shower, basin, and WC completes the interior, perfect for freshening up after time spent outdoors. Outside, garden furniture encourages guests to enjoy meals in the open air or linger over a morning coffee, with views across the owner’s grounds adding to the rural character. The presence of on-site animals, including chickens, sheep, and a Shetland pony, lends a gentle farmyard atmosphere to the setting. Beyond Welney, days out come easily. Visit Ely to admire its landmark cathedral and stroll beside the River Great Ouse, or explore the historic streets and waterfront of King’s Lynn.

Further afield, Cambridge offers punting along the River Cam, museum visits, and architectural highlights. However your days unfold, Laurel provides a welcoming base for discovering the region. Note: This property can be booked with ref. 1200605, together sleeping up to 4 people.

Littleport is the largest village in East Cambridgeshire and is set on the banks of the River Ouse, approximately 6 miles north of Ely and 6 miles south-east of Welney. The historic village of Littleport has a range of amenities including pubs, shops and a leisure centre. The area surrounding Littleport is low lying and is home to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) reserve in the Ouse Washes, the winter home of thousands of swans and ducks from northern Europe and the Arctic. Also close by is the rspb reserve at Ouse Washes which has walks across the wet grasslands, and the historic city of Ely with its museums and Oliver Cromwell's house is just a short drive away. The village of Littleport is a wonderful base for a holiday exploring Cambridgeshire.
