Riverside has six inviting bedrooms to suit all guests. The ground floor includes a flexible super king room (convertible to singles) with a Smart TV, plus a bunk bedroom for children. Upstairs, amidst a stocked library, find two king bedrooms with en-suite showers, and two twin bedrooms, three bathrooms, including a main bathroom with separate shower cubicle and tub, offering convenience for everyone. Outside, the private back garden features a barbecue and garden furniture, perfect for al-fresco dining under the stars. The highlight is the private lake and jetty—ideal for relaxing walks, sunbathing, or soaking in nature’s tranquillity. The owners were attentive, communicated excellently and were helpful throughout. The welcome pack of fresh juice, milk, pizzas and cookies was a thoughtful touch. Riverside is spacious, spotlessly clean and has plenty of storage, with a generous selection of films, CDs, books and games. The kitchen fittings and appliances are also very good.Our main disappointment was that, although the property is advertised as sleeping 12, its shared spaces seem better suited to six to eight. The two three-seater sofas were functional but not comfortable for relaxing together, and the other seating options were a very uncomfortable chair or a beanbag. The dining table has eight hard wooden chairs, while the four-seat breakfast bar is in a separate area. There isn’t enough room around the table for people to move comfortably once everyone is seated, so dinner became a bit of a game of musical chairs.The hot water was another difficulty. It is heated at set times controlled by the owner, rather than being continuously available. The tank ran out during the morning, leaving insufficient hot water for everyone to wash or shower, and we had to wait until teatime to wash the dishes. We were told about this only a couple of days before arrival, not when booking.Several items also needed attention: the master ensuite shower tray moved underfoot, its toilet seat was broken, the downstairs toilet was loose, the kitchen plinths were unfixed, and the hob extractor only worked while its button was held down. The upstairs master bed also had several detached slats, causing the mattress to sag through.Although immaculately clean, the bright white walls, hard floors, limited soft furnishings and cold lighting made the house feel stark and less homely than we’d hoped. There were few bedroom mirrors and no full-length mirror. The kitchen was beautifully fitted, but limited crockery meant using plastic picnic ware, and the cutlery was unpleasant to use. The need for numerous glass protection mats also made us wonder how practical the worktop finish was.Riverside has real strengths, especially its space, cleanliness and the owners’ helpful communication. However, the seating and dining arrangements, hot-water restrictions and maintenance issues were disappointing, particularly given the price paid for an October half-term break. It may suit a group of 12 who are happy to follow separate routines and spend much of their time out exploring. It didn’t work well for our family, who wanted to relax and spend time together in comfortable shared spaces, and we wouldn’t choose to stay again as it stands.With more thoughtful planning, the upstairs twin room could become a family room for four, and the downstairs double bedroom could be converted into a dining room with seating for 12. The current dining area could then house the pool table and games, freeing the lounge for larger, more comfortable seating around the log burner. That would make better use of the space and allow the house to accommodate a large group comfortably without losing its facilities.

We had a lovely break at Riverside, great cottage with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Hosts very friendly and helpful and the place was very clean and nicely organised. Would definitely recommend.
