About this property

Radstock 2.7 miles. This well-appointed cottage is situated in the beautiful and peaceful grounds of Ammerdown Park, a short distance from the centre of Radstock. The cottage offers ample family accommodation and makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. With a bedroom on the ground floor with an en-suite and separate shower room, the accommodation is suited for those with limited mobility. There is a lovely kitchen with a dining area which leads through to a comfortable sitting area. Completing this floor is the handy utility room which houses the laundry facilities. Upstairs are the remaining three bedrooms, which also have en-suites and enjoy views out to the centre's amazing landscaped gardens and walled orchard. The cottage has its own private patio area where you can dine alfresco with the accompaniment of bird song. If you can tear yourself away from this beautiful setting you will find plenty of choices for days out in the area. Just ten miles away lies the historic city of Bath, a world heritage site, with its Roman Baths, spa, stunning Georgian buildings, parks, gardens, museums, theatres and restaurants. A short drive across the beautiful Mendip Hills will take you to the Bishop’s Palace and the uniquely scissor-vaulted cathedral in the city of Wells. Bradford-on-Avon (sometimes called ‘miniature Bath’) and the Kennet and Avon Canal are within easy reach as too are a number of National Trust and English Heritage properties, including Stonehenge, Stourhead House and Gardens, Lacock and Avebury. If you are looking for something closer to the cottage, there are heritage railways at Midsomer Norton, home of the Somerset & Dorset Heritage Railway Trust, and Cranmore, home of the East Mendip Railway, plus Radstock Museum, the nursery rhyme villages of Kilmersdon (Jack and Jill) and Mells (Little Jack Horner). Closer still, you can simply wallow in the tranquillity of Ammerdown.

The former coal-mining town of Radstock is a fantastic location filled with places of historic interest and surrounded by greenery. The Radstock Museum is an interesting day out with plenty of history about the area and the industrial past of the town. Two cycle routes run from the town and open up the surrounding wider countryside with routes running from Bath through to Frome. For walkers there are a number of options including the Miners and Black Mountain Trails where there is some stunning scenery on offer.

Well heated and all dishes, pans, tea towels we needed. Really clean. Easy with key safe access to 2 keys. Grand and spooky (in the dark!) drive to the manor house (and so to the cottage) was fun. Nice walks from cottage up to the monument etc. The Talbot Inn 10 mins away by car was great.

Visiting family so the cottage was a great location for the local area. Will definitely come again.

On arrival there was no Key to get in with, then one bedroom had a dirty bath towel, where as two were short of bath towels. The photographs gave the impression of the cottage being a good size for 8 people but we were pushed to fit 6 in the lounge area, The kitchen was fitted into a very small space, each time you went to get crockery out of the cupboard the door hit the cooker extractor fan canopy, the glasses were tiny, there were no instructions on how to use anything, we had to buy tea towels and dishwasher tablets as none were provided. We were lucky that two of our group were children otherwise we would had to pull the dining table nearly up to the sink to fit everyone round it. We also found several dead beetles on the floor. We were invaded with wasps (on the last day we had 9 in the top bathroom). There was also a salt cellar left for guests to use but it had clogged salt in it that had started to go brown. The chest of drawers that was in the foyer (which we thought was for the use of the downstairs bedroom) was broken and couldn't be used, So I'm afraid this cottage was a big disappointment and in my opinion not what I've come to expect from Sykes.
