A 20 minute drive from Rotorua will take you to the stunning landscape of Lake Tarawera. Former home to the pink and white terraces before the Tarawera Eruption, Lake Tarawera has an interesting geography explorable by boat and foot. The lake is well known as an excellent fishing spot for trout, as well as being perfect for boating activities and walking tracks.
