About this property

With ancient woodland to one side and views of the enchanting Val d’Orcia to the other side, Celestial Rose is in a fantastic location. Just 3km away from the nearest amenities and with a wide range of villages and towns within easy reach, this is the perfect place for a holiday in Tuscany.

As you approach the villa through the 9 acres of lush grounds, you will spot the red-hued house with traditional terracotta roof tiles, surrounded by lawns and established trees. Your neighbours are the local animals such as deer, wild boar, cuckoos, and hares that thrive in this rural landscape.

Entering the home, the farmhouse exterior gives way to an open-plan, modern interior. The walls of the vast living spaces are hung with unique artworks from a gallery owned by the homeowners, and the unique furnishings have been custom-made to work in harmony with these pieces. The 80 square-meter living room is the heart of the home, where your group can come together and chat over a bottle of local wine. On cooler evenings, you can gather in the living room, which is a great spot to unwind. You will also find the elegant fully-fitted kitchen and a formal dining room on this floor. One of the bedrooms is located on the ground floor and has access to the garden.

Upstairs you will find a further four boutique-style bedrooms, all of which are spacious and have an en-suite bathroom. Two of the bedrooms have large bathtubs, which are ideal for a soak with a good book after a day of sightseeing.

If you are a couple, who would appreciate a little quiet, then you could sleep in the independent annexe on the grounds, which has a double bed and a unique green marble bath.

The garden is an oasis where you can spend the day sunbathing, swimming in the private pool or tucking into an Italian feast on the covered dining terrace. The best feature of the garden is, of course, the panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the mountains of Lazio.

When you need to nip out for a bite to eat or visit the supermarket, Sarteano, the closest village, is just 3km away! You could drive or even walk if you wish. This hillside village is a great place to visit. It is packed with historical attractions such as a medieval castle which dominates the landscape and Palazzo Gabrielli, a Renaissance palace which is now a museum of archaeology. Sarteano is a lovely place for a meal as you can enjoy amazing views over the whole area while you eat.

If you are wine-lovers, the villa is well-placed to visit some world-class vineyards. Just 27km away in Montepulciano, there are many brilliant family-run vineyards which have been in the area for centuries. Sample the local Nobile wine, learn about winemaking on a tour, and bring a few bottles back to the villa for dinner. If you prefer to spend time outdoors by getting active, then within a 20km radius, you can find horse riding, golf and tennis.

There are so many villages and towns nearby that you could discover one each day. Just a few of these are San Casciano dei Bagni, Città della Pieve and Radicofani, which are all around 20km away by car.

Celestial Rose is the ideal Tuscan home, located amidst farmland and woodland and yet just a stone’s throw away from a quaint medieval village. Whether you are interested in wine, history, art, food or sports, there is something for everyone in this diverse area.

When you are looking for somewhere to visit for a day out, then do not overlook the local village Sarteano which is just 3km away. This medieval village is nestled on a hillside and offers wonderful views over the valleys below. If you wish to learn more about the history of this area, then you can visit the archaeology museum at the Palazzo Gabrielli and wander around the prison cells, towers and gardens of the 1000-year-old castle. Explore the winding lanes of the village and pop into artisan shops, ancient churches and traditional eateries along the way.

26km away from Celestial Rose, you can visit Radicofani, which is another charming village. Hike up to the imposing fortress, which protected the town from invaders from 973AD. There is some beautiful architecture to take in as you walk around, such as the black stone church, the Pieve di San Pietro, the clocktower and lots of tucked away fountains. Another way to explore is by hiring a bike, as you can also ride out to the nearby forests. Radicofani is not overly touristy, and you can sample authentic Tuscan cuisine at street-side cafes.

San Casciano dei Bagni is another fabulous place to visit and is just 19km away from the villa. As well as historical attractions such as the walls, gates and churches which have stood since the middle-ages, San Casciano dei Bagni is known for its thermal waters. You can either try the water in the outdoor Bagno Grande, which has been in use for hundreds of years, or you can visit the Fonteverde spa. The spa harnesses the local thermal springs in 7 different pools and also offers beauty treatments and massages for a relaxing afternoon out.

A larger town with a wider range of shops, restaurants and bars is Pienza which is 35km away from the house. This stunning town showcases the best of Renaissance design and architecture as it was funded by former Pope Pius II, who was born here. A great way to make sure you see all of the hidden gems is by taking a walking tour with a local guide. Depending on your interests, you can choose between a historical tour, an art tour or a food and wine tour. Head out early to make the most of this unesco site as there is lots to see and do.

    A perfect property

This is remote and high up. A long gravel road (which the homeowner made me fully aware of), but which ended with the most spectacular destination ever! I would repeat and extend this stay a million times!
